Today as we end this half term, I would like to thank you for your continued support in helping to make Our Lady Star of the Sea a special place in which children can learn. Watching our Reception children today as they shared with us the mix up of three of our character names was just a pure delight; I can't believe just how they have grown over the year, they spoke, acted, and moved with such confidence, everyone left the hall with such a beaming smile. Children, you should be so very proud of all your achievements and there's still six weeks to go!
This final week has been full of exciting opportunities to explore our 'Health and Happiness'. This is always such an exciting theme which the children fully embrace. We can see that you've all been trying to stay healthy too by walking, cycling or scooting to school; thank you! After half term we will continue with our theme as we look forward to sports mornings on Monday and Tuesday and then the cave arriving, along with a chance to try out our archery skills on Wednesday! This will culminate with our Gym-Jam Jog on Friday 14th June; a much loved event with some big records to break! This is our summer opportunity to raise funds to help develop our outside area. Please fill up those sponsor forms. I have also attached the form here just in case any have been misplaced.
This week our Year 6 children have been enjoying their time on Lake Coniston and I have to say all reports have delighted us with anecdotes about wonderful children who really have been perfect ambassadors of Our Lady's. The staff up there have said that so many of the children have overcome challenges and surpassed all their own expectations throughout the week. I am sure there will be many stories to hear on their return! If you would like a little taste of their experience do visit the Year 6 area and look at the photographs and read those nightly blogs. Thank you Year 6 for making us all so proud; we have missed you all.
Please we urge you to settle any unpaid debts as soon as possible. Alas, we do get nudged by our LCC Finance Officer if dinner or trip payments are behind as they can see when we're in debit and paying out more than we're getting in.
So many of you pay so promptly and it is greatly appreciated but we spend too great a proportion of time sending reminders to some of our families, taking us away from other areas of our work. Do bear with us and if your child is having a dinner, please pay for it in advance.
What we'd like to say is that it's always a privilege to work with all our parents and please help us to help you by ensuring that we are not chasing you for this or that - we really are here wanting to be a welcoming point of contact and a useful support.
Attendance (Half Term)
Well done Year 6 - what a busy half term this has been for you with a week of SATs and finally a week in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District. With one more half-term to go, we will be looking to see which class will take the title for the best attendance for the year! And it looks like we may have another pupil who will finish 7 years at Our Lady's without a day's absence - what an achievement - still a few weeks to go.
This has been another successful half term and watching the children take such strides forward as they immerse themselves in exciting learning continues to be inspiring to us all. It is hard to believe that we only have just over six weeks left when we return to school; but I'm sure they will be weeks full of great opportunities and fun.
As we bring the half term to a close we are also bringing our current website to a close and during the first week back, on the Friday, we will be launching our new mobile site. There are three areas to the new site where you will find both familiar and new information. As part of this process we have spent time looking at both the mission and vision of Our Lady’s and have asked ourselves: ‘what type of people do we want to become?’ In creating our new school profile, we have taken sixteen virtues which will challenge us along our pathway of faith, helping us to be grateful for our own gifts and the gifts of others. Each half term we will be introducing two virtues, starting with growing to be Loving and Compassionate. We hope you will be able to share in this journey with us.
We have spent a long time developing our ideas in our drive to ensuring that together we can walk hand in hand, supporting each and every child. We hope you will enjoy using the new site, find it easy to use and find it reflective of our school community. Have fun!
I hope you all enjoy a lovely two weeks with your families. Let's hope that the good weather will continue and that you will all have a much needed rest and relax with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 10th June.
