Year 6 Weekly Blog Friday 4th September

Welcome to Year 6!

What a lovely couple of days we have had! There has been such a warm and friendly buzz of excitement, anticipation and enthusiasm in the Year 6 classroom. We could not be happier with how the children have returned to school for their final year at Our Lady’s. We have spent a lot of time over the past two days talking about classroom expectations and how we want and our vision for the year ahead.

I am looking forward to meeting you all at our induction evening on Wednesday 9th September. There will be two opportunities to visit the year 6 classroom: 3.45pm - 4.30pm and 4.45pm - 5.30pm. Please make it a priority to come as Year 6 is such an important year with lots of new experiences for the children.

Diving straight into learning

Year 6 is such a busy year, it was important that we dived straight into learning this week. This week we have started to collect formal language, next week we will be looking at features of formal letters in preparation for writing letters of applications for roles around the school. This is their chance to show us how much the school means to them and how they see their final year as an opportunity to give something back and provide real service to their community. It is so wonderful to see how excited the children are about becoming leaders. Thank you for all of the house captain videos that have been sent in - please make sure any last minute video are sent to me by Sunday evening at the latest ready for the pupils at Our Lady’s to vote next week. The staff are busy voting for Head Boy and Head Girl - a very difficult decision. What ever position the children get, I know they will carry this out with deep humility, love and compassion. We must celebrate each role the children get, as each job is the start of a new adventure where they have the opportunity to make a real difference to the school.
