Well… what a week! I was so proud of the children, as I’m sure you were too, when they performed their Easter assembly on Monday morning. The class had barely seen a class assembly, let alone performed in one, yet they all spoke with such confidence and expression! What a team they are!

This week has been an incredibly busy one! I have been blown away by how well the children have learnt their lines for our Easter assembly and I know how excited they are to perform for you on Monday. We had our final dress rehearsal this morning and the children performed with great confidence and passion - I can’t wait for you to join us in school on Monday to see just how much they’ve grown! Please keep practising saying those lines clearly and loudly over the weekend!
In amongst the practising, we’ve also completed lots of great learning. In English, we brainstormed lots of creative ideas for who else Plop the baby barn owl could meet in the story and what they would teach him about the dark. I was amazed by the children ideas; from the tooth fairy to trick or treaters, and angels to wizards, I can’t wait to see how the children will use their ideas to write their chapters next week.
In Maths the children have learnt all about halves and quarters. They are able to confidently recognise these in shapes and are beginning to develop strategies to help them when finding fractions of number. We’ve been using pizza and cake representations to help us with our learning and the children had a bit of a light bulb moment this week - the larger the denominator of the fraction, the smaller the equal part!
In Outdoor PE we have continued to develop our bat and ball skills. We started by working in partners to pass a shuttlecock to one another before moving onto a tennis ball. I have noticed HUGE progress in both the children’s catching skills and their ability to strike successfully using a racket - well done Year 2!
Yesterday afternoon, we enjoyed another child-led worship centered all-around gratitude. The group shared the story of Jairus’ daughter before asking their peers if they had ever felt grateful. Thank you, children, it was such a lovely worship. I’ve also attached photographs of last week’s child-led worship below.

What a Focused Cooper Crab you have been this week Louis! You have tried really hard to manage your distractions in every lesson and have listened really carefully to the learning taking place. It’s been wonderful to see you taking ownership of your own choices and really wanting to please by making positive choices within our classroom. Well done!
Wow Lorenzo – you have been such an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee this week! You have really thrown yourself into your learning and have kept going and going when things have been a little tough. You have been an absolute delight in our assembly rehearsals, really trying your best to stay focused and singing out with great enthusiasm and passion. Thank you Lorenzo!

As you know, up to two people from each child’s family are able to come and watch the children perform on Monday 4th April at 9:10am. The gate at the school entrance will open just after 9am for you to take your seats. Please complete the form below so that we know how many chairs to put out in the hall. Thank you.
Due to other assembly practises taking place in the hall, indoor PE will not be taking place on Monday and Tuesday. Please can all children come to school in their full uniforms on Monday ready for our assembly, but if your child is a disciple, please could they have their PE shorts with them.
Year 2 trip to ‘Bring Yer Wellies’ - On Thursday 12th May, Year 2 will be going on a trip to Bring Yer Wellies in Preston. Here we will be planting different seeds and learning all about plant growth. The cost of the trip is £16, to be made via ParentPay. More information regarding the trip will be given after the Easter holidays.
Well done to Harcourt and Plessington for being awarded the most learning points across the school this term. You can come to school wearing your house colours/own clothes on Friday.
School closes for the Easter holidays at 2pm for Harcourt and Marsden and 2:10pm for Plessington and Bamber.

What a busy week it’s been! We started on Monday by reading and enjoying the final chapter of our story ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’. Before reading, the children made some super predictions about what they thought was going to happen based upon the structure of the previous chapters.

It’s been another week of brilliant learning here in Year 2! The children have worked so hard that the time just seems to have flown by! Each day we have continued our CAFOD ‘Walk against hunger’ and the children are becoming more creative in their movements as the days pass by! The song of choice this week has been the Macarena - the dance moves have certainly made the laps feel shorter!

What a jam-packed week it’s been! We started our ‘Walk Against Hunger’ for Lent this week and it has been joyous to see the whole class coming together to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The songs of choice for this week’s walking have been ‘I would walk 500 miles’ and ‘walking on sunshine’.

What a wonderful week it has been in Year 2! World Book Day yesterday was truly magical! It was so lovely to see all of the children’s amazing costumes and to hear all about their favourite stories and characters. We enjoyed the second chapter of our focus story ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’ together and thought carefully about how we would summarise the events of the chapter into 5 sections.

What an amazing start to the new Spring term we have had here in Year 2! The children sprung into school with springs in their steps ready for their new learning adventures to begin! We began by introducing our new focus virtues for this term ‘grateful and generous’, and it was lovely to hear all about what the children were grateful for during their half term breaks.

The half-term holidays are here, and they are most certainly deserved by all here in Year 2! This term we have seen so much focus and determination and so much progress has been made because of this. This final week of the half term has been no exception. In English the children have been incredibly busy writing their non-chronological reports about birds.

What a lovely week it has been in Year 2! The weather has been very kind to us and we have been able to enjoy our playtimes together without the disruption of rain; we’ve even seen the sun on a couple of occasions. It has also felt as though the children have brought the sunshine into the classroom with them as each lesson has started with such enthusiastic smiles and focus!

What a wonderful week we have had here in Year 2! The children finished writing their own versions of ‘The Great Fairytale Disaster’ and I am so proud of what they have all achieved! I don’t think even the children can believe how much they have written! The class are now all incredibly eager to find out what our new topic will be next … I think they’re going to love it.

These first two weeks of the Spring term seem to have just flown by! The children have continued to be both curious and active learners as we have completed each lesson of the timetable this week, and my goodness, there has been a lot of superb learning taking place.

Happy New Year to you all! It was great to have all of the children back in school on Tuesday, eager to start their second term of learning in Year 2! This week we have been thinking all about our two virtues for this term - curious and active. We thought carefully about the two words and how showing and developing the two qualities can not only help us in our learning, but can help us to grow in our faith too. Everyone set themselves a target for this term and it was super to hear such high goals and aspirations.

It’s hard to believe that the children have completed their first term in Year 2; and what a successful term it’s been! The class have worked incredibly hard and have grown so much already - I can’t wait to see what they will achieve when they return to school after Christmas!

With only one week left to go until the start the Christmas holidays, the children in Year 2 are now definitely full of the festive cheer! This week we have been busy filming our Nativity performance and I have been so proud of how well the children have spoken out and how wonderfully they have sang and danced! Thank you for helping your children to learn their parts - it’s really helped us to get through the filming much quicker!
In English we have continued reading our focus story ‘The Great Fairytale Disaster’. The children are now great at retelling the beginning of the story using their story maps, which they are very excited to show you for their home learning.
Thursday was a day filled with all things History and Florence Nightingale! Miss Brisco has been teaching the children History this term and she has told me that she has been blown away by their knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm! I know that they have been busy creating a quiz containing all of their new knowledge - I can’t wait to have a go at these myself!
In RE we continued reflecting upon the Nativity story and this week focused on Mary how how she must have been feeling. We listened to the song ‘Don’t Worry Mary’ before unpicking what they lyrics actually mean and what message they are spreading. The class then had a go at writing their own verses which hopefully we’ll have time to sing and share next week.
In HRSE, our friend KS came out for the last time in a while to teach us our final bit of learning. Please read the letter below to find out what we discussed. We each said a ‘goodbye’ and ‘see you soon’ to KS as he will be coming back in a couple of months to see how much of our learning we can remember. The evaluation sheet which is mentioned in the letter below has been sent home with your child. Please could these be returned to school with your child next week. Thank you.

Well done Beth – you have been a real ‘Focused Cooper Crab’ this week! You have tried really hard to stay on task and have managed any distractions around you brilliantly. I was also super proud of you during the filming of our Nativity production. You stayed in character whilst the other angels were performing and didn’t grumble once!
Tommy, you have certainly lived up to your name this week and have been such a ‘Brave Tommy Turtle!’ It has been wonderful to see you having a go at your work independently this week, particularly your writing, and you are beginning to show just what you are capable of when you put your mind to it and believe in yourself. Keep going Tommy – we’re really proud!

Christmas Party Day - In class on the 16th December, we will be having our Christmas party. Children can come to school wearing their party clothes ready for a day of fun, dancing and games. Please do ensure that warm clothes and sensible footwear are still worn as we will be going outside at playtimes and lunch. I feel layers may be a good idea! On this day, children can also bring an extra small snack (packet of crisps or a chocolate bar) to enjoy and a drink (not fizzy). The children will also be enjoying a Christmas lunch in the hall.
Keep an eye out for the winning house team of learning points for this term which will be sent out next week. This house can come to school on Friday 17th December wearing their house colours/own clothes.
Friday 17th December - School finishes for Christmas at 2pm and 2.10pm and reopens on Tuesday 4th January.

What a lovely week it has been in Year 2! It’s hard to believe that the season of Advent is here already and the children only have two more weeks of learning until they come to the end of their first term in Year 2. This week we have spent time reflecting upon Advent and what it means.

I think it’s safe to say that we all had the BEST time on our trip to Imagine That Science and Discovery Centre yesterday! The day was filled with so much happiness as the children explored, questioned, played and created whilst they moved through the different zones within the museum. They were such a pleasure to take out of school and they showed just how much they have grown and matured in the time they have been in Year 2 so far!

We’ve had another wonderful week here in Year 2! In English, the children have continued to really enjoy our Traditional Tale unit as we have delved even deeper into the fairytales that we all know and love. The children have been really busy unpicking the different features within traditional tales and have created a toolkit for what a good fairytale should include.
