Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 19th July "Sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful"

July 19, 2024 angela lyons

We have had a lovely last week in Year 4 filled with lasting memories and joy! On Monday, we watched the Yr5 and 6 performance - The Greatest Show - which was simply wonderful! Children have been very busy creating their stories for their end of year puppet shows. They experimented with where to place the light source to get the best shadow puppets. They also retold the Viking myths learned in class.

On Wednesday, we completed our final french lesson on the topic of food. Children created their own menus in French and then served one another as waiters and waitresses with pain au chocolat, croissants, baguettes and limonade or jus d’orange!

We have been practising telling the time in our maths lessons and this is definitely something to revise over the Summer holidays when waiting for the plane or taking a trip to the beach!

Of course the obligatory end of year movie took place too! I have included some pictures below from last Friday’s fundraiser too.

The children have voted for the certificates for the end of this half term. Certificates for every learning character go to Louis, Daisy and Lily. Your class said so many nice things about you - that you are all kind to people and are all good friends who are there for other people. Every single on of you have become great listeners with improved focus too. Well done.

This week our butterflies go to Rory for always being so thankful and supporting everyone in class and Lorenzo for being so grateful - also for stepping in to tell stories for everyone this week.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 12th July "Take every opportunity that comes your way and most importantly, have fun with it."

July 12, 2024 angela lyons

Our penultimate week in Year 4 has seen the children yet again rising to so many challenges. On Monday we went to the Grand theatre for the first ever ‘Storytelling Festival.’ The children were split into 3 groups to take part in storytelling workshops with professionals - to explore either historical fiction, horror or fantasy stories. They were in groups with many other schoolchildren of different ages. What they managed to produce in 2 hours was great and all loved performing on the Grand Stage! The fantasy group put together their story interpretation of ‘The Jabberwocky.’ The historical fiction group explored the history of the Grand theatre and how it was nearly destroyed and the horror group wove many spooky tales with witchcraft, ghosts and mind control! A very creative day. Grace joined a special writing workshop where she made up a lovely story and then was so brave to give a summary of it on stage.

On Wednesday, we performed our flute and clarinet concert to parents in the hall. Playing a musical instrument was tough at first and taught children an important lesson in resilience - with the message - you can do hard things. Their performance was superb and vibrant. Every child worked as one big team to showcase what they have learned - with a special mention to Josh on the drums - keeping everyone in check with his excellent beat and rhythm.

This week, we have tackled telling the time on an analogue clock and it is our mission to really understand this before we move on to year 5. In English, we have continued with our study of Viking myths and children have dramatised these by putting on a puppet show using shadow puppets, to link to our Science topic on light.

We also had a beautiful worship about the Holy Spirit being there to guide us through life. It was led by these three children and was really well put together. Thank you.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 5th July "Community is much more than belonging to something. Its about doing something together that makes belonging matter.

July 4, 2024 angela lyons

Another busy, purposeful week full of opportunities and exciting learning in Year 4 this week! In RE lessons, children have been thinking about belonging to a parish family and what this means. On Thursday, we visited St Bedes - our wider school family and children mingled with many others from different schools. It was a day of reflection and prayer where children worshipped together.

On Monday this week, children had their enrichment activities - this time it was Science with Miss Drummond - thinking about different rock types with sweets! How exciting! Then on Wednesday morning children went to meet their new teacher Mr Cornwell, who was very impressed with them.

The highlight of our week though, was all thanks to our 6 lovely parents who came in to talk about their occupations. Children were absolutely fascinated and learned so much about the world of work. Parents made it so exciting with different tasks, hats to wear and equipment they use from their job. A massive thank you for giving children this learning opportunity and giving up your time and energy.

This week, we have also been revising some of our maths, specifically multiplying larger numbers and finding non-unit fractions of amounts. In English, we have continued with our study of Viking myths and we are also reading quite a scary class novel, ‘The Snow-Walker’s Son.’

In other news, we have learned about shadows in our Science lessons and what forms them. We have had a super PE lesson, learning batting and fielding skills for rounders.

June 28, 2024 angela lyons

When we look back at everything we have done this week - it is a lot! It has been a busy week but children have really risen to the challenge. In our RE lessons this week, children have been thinking about what the church believes by analysing ‘The Creed’ a prayer announcing our faith. This is on a new topic all about the church.

This week, we have launched our new topic in English which is reading all about Viking myths. We first learned about the Norse Cosmos - the nine worlds that the Vikings believed existed. Children then created these worlds in groups and did some beautiful writing based on this. Check out some of our lovely writing walls of previous work displayed in the pictures below and also our lovely banner which we have made to take to St. Bedes next week.

In other news, we have learned about reflection in our Science lessons. We have learned about the repeat command in computing and had some great PE lessons where we have been practising our catching and aiming skills ready for rounders style games. Maths focus has been shapes and symmetry. We have also completed some nd of year quizzes.

What a lovely week in Year 4! On Monday, we had our Gym Jam Jog bright and early! Thank you all for your generous sponsorship. It was such a great community event for a truly deserved cause. On Tuesday we ventured to Tatton Hall Park for another adventure! Tatton is an old Anglo-Saxon settlement and we were greeted by an Anglo-Saxon lady who told us we had not paid our Danegeld and we may be attacked by those Vicious Vikings! To prepare, children learned how to make a shield wall and found out about weapons. We also carried out daily village chores such as weaving, threshing and grinding. Not to fear, the Danegeld was paid so no Viking attack - much to our brave children’s disappointment!

In English this week, we have been reading and learning to write limericks based on our novel, the Firework-Makers daughter. Children were challenged to quiz on the book too and did really well.

Maths - we have finished our fractions for now. This week we have learned about division with remainders and now we are learning about translation of shapes and co-ordinates on a grid.

In other news, we have learned about different job sectors in Geography and sorted different occpations under the different headings. We have solved monetary problems involving shopping in French with euros.

I am sure you will agree this is exactly what Year 4 did in our annual Sport’s Day on Wednesday. We were really pleased with the level of energy and support that they gave each other. Mr Nay commented on the positive vibe that they created amongst one another. Well done Year 4! As part of our health and happiness fortnight, children also had yoga the next day. It is a credit to them that they could turn the pure energy of the day before into stillness and calm for this session.

In English this week, we have reached the end of our novel and children have been showing me how much progress they have made with amazing descriptions of the fire-fiend and they created their own firework displays. Such imaginative work. Children can see what good writers they have become!

Maths - we have finally taken our Multiplication check. Children did really well - the results are due in a few weeks. Keep those times tables ticking over on TTrockstars until Year 5 so they don’t get rusty. We have also been doing some really tricky fractions work this week - converting from improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.

In other news, we have started a new topic all about food in French and in Geography have started to explore jobs and why they are important.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 24th May "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."

May 24, 2024 angela lyons

What a beautiful sight and two happy days to celebrate and cherish forever! The children have been thinking about happiness this week in their RE lessons. They have asked some provocative questions about what brings true happiness and how making others happy often makes us feel joyful too. We then looked at Jesus’ greatest guidance about how to be happy - the Beatitudes; which backs this up and shows us happiness stems from loving God, ourselves and others. It has been a really reflective week when children have taken stock and thought deeply about how to be the best versions of themselves.

In English this week, we have been studying writing about contrasting settings and contrasting characters through our novel. We did some shared writing, describing a bust jungle grill, then a calm lakeshore. Children were in their element when describing the beautiful goddess of the emerald lake. Each one was unique - just like them! We now move on to the contrasting character - Rasvani, the Fire-Fiend!

Maths - all I can say is WOW! Our increased focus this week has seen us bomb through so much fractions work. We have looked at ‘mixed numbers’ (fractions larger than one whole) and we have been doing lots of reasoning about their size, placing them on numberlines and comparing them.

For PE this week, one was rained off but the other one saw us doing a spectacular (and very fierce) Viking dance in the hall.

  1. Talk maths - fractions. What is a denominator? What is the numerator? What is a mixed number? Can you think about fractions when you have your tea (cake, pizza) or when you share anything equally? Can you find fractions of numbers too?

Also this week, we had a special worship all about love led by these four children. They talked about Worrying and read from Matthew’s gospel about what Jesus said about worries.

Let’s Celebrate!

End of half term is always done by class votes. The class voted for these three children who they said love learning, are always focused and participate so fully in every single lesson. They have a certificate with every learning character. Well done Tilly, Beth and Toby.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 17th May "Mary we crown the with blossoms today; Queen of the Angels and queen of the May."

May 16, 2024 angela lyons

As May is the month of Mary, we had a lovely worship in our outside worship area. All children had a set of rosary beads and we learned how to pray the rosary together. We then sung a song to Mary and crowned her with blossoms.

In English this week, we read furter into our novel and met a very whacky character. The children worked in pairs to write character descriptions. They also practised reading closely to infer what point the writer is trying to make at different parts.

Maths has seen us understand and reason about non-unit fractions and be able to compare them. We have also been adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.

For PE this week, we have had two lessons outside. We have been learning a bit of meditation and also started to practice for our upcoming sports day

For Science, we have been experimenting to see what caused a change in pitch. We used many different ways to seek patterns in our findings. See conversation starters below

  1. What is pitch? What causes change in pitch. What would the soundwaves look like? What is your favourite instrument? Have a chat about playing the flute - there are a couple of notices about flute below. You can discuss them with your family.

Also this week, we had a special worship all about love led by these two children. They talked about God’s great love for us and how we need to spread this love to one another. Thank you children. It was really beautiful.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 10th May "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed."

May 9, 2024 angela lyons

What a lovely worship we had this week, led by these three children. It was all about Jesus’ Sacrifice and how He accepted the will of His father. Children’s message at the ned of the worship was to accept God’s plans for you and learn to listen to Him. We have delved deeply into the understanding of the consecration of bread and wine into Body and Blood and have been reflecting that when we receive the Body of Christ we become Christ’s body here on earth.

In English this week, the children wrote a persuasive letter from the father in the book - urging his daughter to come back home. These were so well thought out and emotive! What a super group of writers you are!

Maths has seen us delve further into reasoning about fraction size and understanding different representations of fractions. We have only one final multiplication fact to learn when mastering number - then we have gone for gold!

In French. children have learned numbers up to 100 and used this to help give a French weather report in different French cities - using compass points too!

In history this week, it was time for children to make some conclusions about the race we call the Vikings. Were they raiders or settlers? Could they give a balanced view, thinking about what recent evidence has shown? Children made zig-zag books to present their conclusions.

For PE this week, we tried to put elements of our gymnastic sequences created last week onto the apparatus. Also below are some pictures of our sound investigations here children discovered that sound is caused by vibration.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 3rd May "I am the vine and you are the branches."

May 3, 2024 angela lyons

This week in our worship, we have looked at the word ‘Connection’ and thought specifically about how we are connected to God, by thinking of Jesus’ message - I am the vine and you are the branches.’ Deep class discussion examined how we are linked to God and Jesus - how we are now Christ’s Body here on Earth. Children looked out for people in class this week who demonstrated this in their actions this week.

In RE, children have been learning about the Earliest Christians - specifically the first ever martyr St.Stephen and his great faith in Jesus. They then learned about Saul, who became St. Paul after he saw the light on the road to Damascus. We had a beautiful worship too - all about God’s power, led by these three children:

On Wednesday this week, children’s enrichment activity was with Mrs Harrison for…. ballroom dancing. After getting over some initial embarrassment, children joined in whole-heartedly.

In English, we have started Mrs Lyons’ favourite novel of the year, “The Firework-Maker’s Daughter. This book has it all - great characters, humour, adventure and a great female protagonist! We have been honing our reading skills and learning lots of new vocabulary - just in chapter two!

Maths has seen us finish unit fractions and go on to learn non-unit fractions. We are also working so hard to prepare for our Multiplication Tables Check on Friday 14th June. Children did a mock test this week and have been reflecting on what they personally need to do next.

In Computing over the last few weeks, children have been learning about how to search effectively on the internet. This week, we focused on questioning the credibility of things we read and watch online. This is hard to navigate - but we have looked at clues to tell us whether information is credible and learned we can check more official sites to make sure. It is good to question and analyse.

In history this week, we have looked for evidence of Vikings in this country by examining digital maps to study place names. We can tell by the ending eg ‘thorpe’ or ‘toft’ to see if it was settled by Vikings!

Today in Science, we did an experiment measuring in decibels who was the loudest in class. We then discovered what exactly sound is by a series of observations.

I was sent these images below from the RSC from our Romeo and Juliet playmaking festival so I thought I would share them with you. They really capture what a special time it was.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 26th April "Filled with my Spirit; how you will grow!"

April 26, 2024 angela lyons

The highlight of our week this week was preparing for and celebrating in Father Peter’s 50th anniversary as a priest! The children had so many ideas about what we could do for him! They thought he was like a good shepherd, he guides us like a lighthouse and he is named after St Peter, on whose rock our church was built. In the end, we decided to make him a lighthouse and thank him for guiding us. We went to mass on Thursday and sung all of his favourite hymns. It was a lovely celebration of such an inspirational human being.

In RE, children have learned about how the Holy Spirit gives us gifts and fills us with the courage to use them. Those such as self-control, kindness, compassion and forgiveness. They are reflecting on which fruits they could develop more in themselves.

This week, in English we have written our Dragon Slayer stories. We have also been working on our reading comprehension - being able to read and answer questions about texts we have read. We have also read a beautiful non-fiction book about Vikings in small groups to find out more.

In French we learned compass points in French and then did a French weather report in each area of France

In maths, we are whizzing through fractions at a phenomenal rate. We have revised unit fractions this week and made sure we understand what the numerator and denominator in a fraction represent.

In history this week, we have examined evidence that gives a rounder picture of the Vikings and shows them to be an interesting race of people. Children can you explain why to your parents? (See below)

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 19th April "Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?"

April 19, 2024 angela lyons

We have had a very productive week in Year 4. In religion lessons this week, children learned about what happened to the disciples at Pentecost. They re-enacted the different events of the story and used their drama skills to ‘freeze frame’ them. We have been trying in class this week to become like Jesus’ disciples and be witnesses to the good news too! Children have been spotting others who try hard to be disciples and writing their names on our board.

This week, in English we have continued to revise every aspect of grammar - using our Dragon Slayer story to help us. We are nailing the tricky apostrophe for possession, we can write similes and we can use exciting sentence starts to name a few. Children have started to put these into practice, choosing when to use them in the story they are writing.

In French we are learning how to say weather phrases and children did a French weather rap - complete with some beat-boxing!

In maths, we are just brilliant on multiplicative relationships now! It is time to move on to Fractions!

In Science, we started our topic on sound - secretly, Mrs Lyons recorded the sound for a whole day and night in Year 4! What did we discover? We found out that sound is measured in decibels then we made up our own class experiment to see who was the loudest in Year 4!

In history this week, we have looked at two extracts of writing from exactly the same year, 825 AD. One said the Vikings were brave, adventurous, noble and great sailors. The other said exactly the opposite - they ravaged our country, were violent, murderous thugs. Why the 2 different accounts? Children can you explain why to your parents? (See below)

The Vikings have a bad reputation! But do they deserve it or is there another side to this part of history? Were they just bloodthirsty raiders?

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are learned in their actions, finding God in all things. Those who are wise, who use their learning for the common good. These are children who are trying to drive their own learning forward. This week we have a trio of butterflies. They go to Louis, Toby and William for being children who take their learning seriously and make wise decisions.

In Year 4

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 12th April "Individually, we are one drop; together we are an ocean."

April 12, 2024 angela lyons

What a lovely first week we have had in year 4 - full of achievements! In our religion lessons this week, we have started to learn about the very first Christians, beginning with St Peter and then the Ascension of Jesus to heaven. We welcome back Miss Bassett who is teaching RE on Tuesdays in Year 4 and was very impressed with children’s reflective questions, especially in our worship about belief.

On Wednesday children performed their Shakespeare for the whole school. I am sure you were as proud as I was of them - what a performance! What a team! In our English lessons now, we are focusing on putting all our writing skills together to compose a story about a Dragon Slayer and then it will be time for our class novel, ‘The Firework-Maker’s daughter.’

In history, we have now moved onto our topic on Vikings. Children began this topic by meeting’Sven the boatbuilder’ who looked suspiciously like Mrs Lyons with a viking helmet on. Nevertheless, the children quizzed Sven about how great longships were made and why Vikings were such great sailors.

On Thursday, we ended our Science topic about Rocks by taking a trip through the square, examining buildings to theorise about what type of rocks were used. I won’t tell you any more - I will let the children do that (see conversation starter below)

In maths, we have been understanding multiplicative relationships and children have been using their times tables knowledge to great advantage by solving calculations like 154 x 6! The speed at which many children know their times tables makes this easy for them now!

Conversation starters

Tell your family all about our trip to the beach. What is our church made of? What has happened to it? What other types of rocks did we see on buildings? What bout the rocks you found on the beach? What did your rock tests suggest about their rock type? Also - why not take your family to the limestone wall of fossils near the YMCA?

Year 4 Weekly blog Thursday 28th March " He is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!"

March 28, 2024 angela lyons

Thank you all so much for your kind donations in Lenten boxes for CAFOD and thank you children for all those tasks you did to earn the money. What a beautiful and poignant week it has been throughout school. It has been so painful at times, as children have been sorrowful and reflective when thinking about the agonising events of Holy week. Our class assembly showed their maturity to understand the fear, abandonment, betrayal and agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. On Wednesday children wrote about their reflections and feelings towards the crucifixion. There was a mixture of deep sorrow, frustration and gratefulness for what Jesus did for us. Also, children wrote questions they wanted to ask about it. I read their work on Wednesday night and felt tearful myself at the depth of children’s emotion towards and understanding of Good Friday’s events. Today they were asked to do reflections of a different nature, about the hope that the Resurrection of Jesus brings.

As we get to the final term, we are encouraging children to strive to be independent and believe in their own ideas when writing. The above tasks really helped them to see that their best is good enough and that there is not one right answer to things. In English this week, children have been writing our story learned in class, “Brer Fox and the White Plums,’ to see if they can use all the year 4 writing skills when they compose. A lot of learning is ‘mind over matter,’ and just taking the plunge to go for it! We are developing our resilience and stamina to keep going when things are tricky - to stand us in good stead for life’s challenges.

In Science we have learned all about fossil formation this week and also enjoyed sifting through soil with our plastic gloves to see exactly what it was made out of. After the holidays, we will go on a trip to the beach via St Annes, looking out for rocks, erosion, fossils and collecting rocks to bring back to school and test.

We had a treat today when the Easter bunny had hidden eggs all over our garden for each child in school. The excitement of the hunt was lovely!

We learned about the Earth’s tectonic plates in Geography this week by taking the ‘lid’ off a crunch cream biscuit and seeing what happened when 2 plates rub together/converge. This taught children about the causes of earthquakes and volcanoes. See if they can explain it to you. Why not look up the ‘Tectonic plates - Ring of Fire,’ and find out why it gets its name.

Let’s Celebrate!

Each half term the class are asked to vote for the certificate winners. Mrs Gregan asked children to focus this half term on learners who were reflective. The class picked Matilda for how hard she tries and how she is always seeking to improve, listening well to feedback. They picked Tommy because he inspired them in Shakespeare by learning so many lines. He always tries to get better. He is a good listener and a kind friend. They also picked William because he is so enthusiastic and does not give up. They said he listens to advice and improves every day!

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 22nd March "Reconciliation is more beautiful than victory."

March 22, 2024 angela lyons

We are so proud of all the Year 4 children this week! They have learned a lot about who they are this week and how hard work, passion and effort can help them overcome barriers and achieve greatly. They were absolute stars at the Shakespeare Playmaking Festival at Hodgson High School. They spoke out so clearly and all their hard work paid off in their excellent delivery of their 6 scenes. They were so respectful of other schools when they were rehearsing and were so thankful towards members of staff there. At the end, the Montague and Capulet family are reconciled, teaching all children the power of forgiveness.

A real change of tempo and atmosphere on Thursday night came in their Sacrament of Reconciliation. Now it was their turn to be reconciled with God and others. They showed such reflection and maturity through all sessions and this really showed on Thursday evening. What beautiful voices they all have too!

Also on Thursday, they had their last swimming lesson! Another great achievement - children had a fun week doing relays and playing water polo. Again they are to be commended on their excellent sportsmanship and kindness to each other in these games.

In other news, they have also written their own version of a Brer Rabbit story this week and learned about weathering and erosion in Science. Eagerly, they are practising their assembly for next week.

As it has been a big week for Year 4, I have asked the children to reflect upon themselves. Now your sins have been forgiven, what does your relationship with God feel like? How have you grown this week? What have you achieved? How have you managed to do all of these great things. How do you overcome nerves? Who are you as a person and how do you want to change and grow next?

Let’s Celebrate!

This week, it is impossible to single any of you out so I have one learning certificate with all the learning characters for the whole class. You have outdone yourselves in so many ways and worked as a great class team. What a class you are becoming! Keep this enthusiasm and resilience up Year 4.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 15th March "Only by being both deity and humanity, could Jesus Christ bridge the gap between where God is."

March 15, 2024 angela lyons

What an exciting week we have had in Year 4! In our RE this week, we have been spending time thinking about Jesus, Our Saviour. We have looked at the evidence that Jesus is both truly human, feeling human emotions and truly God, being all powerful. This has helped us reflect on events of Holy Week, especially the story of the Garden of Gethsemane which our class assembly is based on. We have been practising this story and examining the deep emotions felt by those in the story.

In maths we have been working on understanding the 3x, 6x and 9x tables and how these are linked. Children have been solving two step problems involving 2 operations and have been making the link between multiplication and division. In our English lessons, children have been learning how to write some tricky grammatical sentences and they have invented their own character for their Brer Rabbit story which they will be writing next week. We have learned this week about the structure of the earth. We made it out of a Malteser core, icing sugar mantle and ginger nut crust! Children then wrote an explanation text about the earth’s structure and how volcanoes erupt. This led nicely onto our Science lesson about types of rock and how many rocks come from volcanoes. Not to forget German with Miss Hartley on Monday and an exciting water safety lesson in swimming too.

Conversation starters

This week in Geography, we learned about the structure of the Earth. Why not chat about the ground you walk on. What are the continents? What is underneath the solid rock of land? We have also been learning about rock types. What are igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock?

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 8th March "Great stories happen to those that can tell them."

March 8, 2024 angela lyons

Thank you so much for all your effort in these wonderful costumes for World Book Day! The focus of our day was on telling stories this year. Children had an amazing time telling stories about their object and reciting our class story ‘Brer Fox and the White Plums,’ to their Year 1 friends.

The class are really excelling at their performance of Romeo and Juliet - they are delivering their lines with such power and are such a good team! We have done lots of practice for it this week. We have also learned about the structure of a volcano in our Geography lessons and how they erupt. In maths this week, we have been starting to do some timed tests with our ‘Going for Gold,’ times tables facts. Each day, we get better, We are going into depth now at relationships between the tables in our maths lessons. In English, we have learned how to write similes this week, we have learned what pronouns are and have also learned how to use the apostrophe for possession.

It was lovely to see so many of you at our book look on Wednesday and to see the pride on the children’s faces - they should feel proud, they do so much and are improving every day. There is an alternative date underneath for a quick look, if you could not make it.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 1st March "A New commandment I give unto you, to love one another as I have loved you."

March 1, 2024 angela lyons

This week, in our worship, our key word has been ‘guidance.’ We have looked at the guidance we have from the bible in the form of the 10 commandments and in Jesus’ new covenant with us - ‘Love one another, as I have loved you.’ Children then used this in their class council session to look at how they can improve lunchtimes. Often during more unstructured times, children’s behaviour can slip and they can forget to be kind or respectful. We came up with class ‘Lunchtime commandments’ which would help us respect and care for everyone.

In English this week, we have immersed ourselves in Brer Rabbit stories. Children have loved finding out about the characters in these stories. They have ranked them in order of smartness and have been learning to figure out the meaning of new words from the context.

In maths we have learned this week clever ways to find the perimeter of rectinlinear shapes, rectangles and regular polygons. We are doing brilliantly and ‘Going for Gold’ with our times tables - our new facts this week were 3x=21 and 6x7=42. We have a song for each key fact learned so far - see if your children can sing them to you! Here is a video below.

In Geography this week, we have started our new topic about mountains, Earthquakes and volcanoes. Children have been excited using atlases to locate the world’s most talked about volcanoes.

Conversation starters

Each week, from now on, we will put a topic for conversation to be had our dinner or on the way to school.

This week in Geography, we began our topic by looking at some of the diverse places that children come from in our class. We searched on google maps to look at places like Portugal, Nigeria, Italy, Ireland and more. Can you chat together about your child’s roots? Can you talk about celebrating diversity and differences in culture, ways of life and expressing oneself?

Let’s Celebrate!

This week, the certificates went to Matilda and Sean. You are both so hardworking and you try so hard to improve. You are lovely learning partners.
