Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Matthew 13:8

It seems ironic that as we head into the final week of the school year, that the Gospel is linked to growing. How when a seed falls onto good soil, it blooms and grows. Well our children are the seeds and we are the soil. Throughout the year we have tried to nurture our little seeds, giving them the nutrients to bloom and grow, and having read and commented on all of the children’s school reports; I think we have done ok; more than ok in fact. The final week of the year is always an emotional one as each teacher prepares to say goodbye to their class, and our Year 6 children prepare for life away from Our Lady’s - and some families too. This year we will be saying goodbye to to 16 families; so let’s make the last week memorable.

The timetable for the final week is:

  • Monday: Year 5 & 6 Play

  • Tuesday: Year 5 & 6 Play

  • Wednesday: Nursery celebration party and the whole-school Leavers’ Mass. Please walk down to church with us if you are attending. Year 3 & 4 Sports Day will take place in the afternoon.

  • Thursday: Year 6 Day Out

  • Friday: Celebration Charter Assembly.

Last year we created a new tradition where after you have collected your children at 2pm, we ask you to make your way round to the Year 6 classroom and form a guard of honour for a beautiful class as we send them on their way.

STAR Charter

In next Friday’s final assembly, we will celebrate the enormous effort that we have made this year in our STAR Charter. Being part of Our Lady’s means supporting others - something else that we have done really well at this year.

Our nursery children received their certificate for the work that they had done this year! This week both Year 2 and Year 3 have completed their charity events this week via a beach walk and concert for Little Hearts and a sponsored Marathon for the British Heart Foundation.

We also have our distinction award for anyone who has:

  • Attended at least 2 family masses.

  • Raised money for a cause outside of school.

  • Volunteered with an organisation or supported someone in their own time over a sustained period of time.

  • Made something for our common home.

If you have evidence that your child has earned the distinction award by demonstrating one or more of the above, please complete the form below by Monday 13th July.

End of Year Report

Although reading 210 school reports can take some time, quite a lot of time, it is one of my favourite jobs to do. I love reading what the children have achieved this year and the progress they have made. This year I have had the pleasure of spending time teaching in a lot of the classes; which made the comments extra special. Reports will be going home next Monday. In the envelope it will contain your child’s report - complete with attendance, end of year letter from me and uniform guidance for September with the changes implemented as directed by the DFE. Please do spend time reading your child’s report and their comments - there are some crackers this year. Have a look at their assessments and see what their development points are for next year along with what they have done so very well.

There has been a delay with the Year 6 SATs results; these will be sent out separately on Thursday once they have been received.

Getting involved

When you read my letter within the reports on Monday, you will hear me speak about sustainability; infact I spoke about this at Mass last week. For many many years, the school fundraising has been within house and we have some really lovely community events throughout the year; but we absolutely cannot do this by our selves and we need more people to get involved. On Friday 25th September, we will be holding our first Our Lady Colour Run to raise money for the outside and the work that will need to take place to be an OPAL school. For this to take place, we will definitely need a team. People who can…organise a food truck and ice cream van, set up a tombola, marshalls on the track, are excellent at getting things for free - including hay bales etc, some music on the stage, organising tickets etc. I want this to be a showcase event that everyone can attend to start the year. If you would like to get involved and support the school, please can you complete the form below. I will then be in touch next week to start putting plans together. I am really excited about this next stage of our development.

Our Stars and Learners of the Week…

Sporting Success

We were incredibly proud to have two teams represent the school this week. In a first, our Year 5 & 6 Girls Cricket Team progressed all the way to the County Finals held at the new LCC in Leyland. This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of them. To compete locally is one thing, but to then head to a County Final is an excellent achievement and wonderful experience!

Ten of our Year 5 children also headed to Stanley Park to take part in the BEBCMAT Sport festival alongside other schools in our trust. They took part in a range of activities and events - again; increidbly proud. Well done you!

Here is the winter warmer snack booking form for next week. Please book before 8am on Monday. For the final week of the year, sausage butties will be on the menu on Thursday.

Office News

Rearranged dates for cancelled events this week

  • Year 3 & 4 Sports Day - Wednesday 15th July @ 1.30pm

  • The Year 5 & 6 Play takes place next week. All children involved in the play need to be here for 5:40pm - doors will open at 5:45pm. If anyone has any air conditioning units or fans, please can we borrow them for the hall.

Uniform Guidance for September 2026

Please find the uniform guidance for September 2026. The only changes that you need to be aware of:

  • PE tops will be compulsory from September. All children must wear the navy t-shirt for PE from September, not the white polo.

  • There will be no jewellery from September apart from an analogue watch. This applies to earrings as well. St Bedes have a no earring policy and as a cluster of schools that feed into St Bedes, we are applying the same policy here. If you are thinking of getting your child’s ears pierced over the summer holidays, it needs to be immediately so that they can be removed before they start school in September.

Attendance Matters

School attendance for this week.

Well done to Year 1 with a winning % of 98.6%. Our whole school attendance was 95.3%

School finishes at 2pm next Friday - there will be no All Stars that day.

Have a lovely weekend. We look forward to seeing you on the road tomorrow if you are watching the parade. Please join us if you can and walk with us - cheer us along!
