As we continue to journey through the Year of Hope, we are constantly called to recognise our worth in the world - to seek ways to make our world a better place for all. Today was our CAFOD Pledge Day, a day when we stopped to think about the actions that we can do to make the world in which we live in a better place. Our nursery children led their own pilgrimage to the chapel to write their pledges there. Using their flag to guide them, they headed over and lit our candle of hope. Across the school, each class has written individual and collective pledges. Please do ask your child at home what they have written; maybe you too could write a pledge.
It is our final family mass on Sunday at 9:30am. Our Holy Communion children will be attending in their outfits ready to share the joy with the parishoners. Following the mass, it is Coffee Morning at the Parish Centre. The team have organised cake for the Year 4 children back there - please do join if you can. St Annes Carnival is only a week away - I know it is a really busy time; there is lots of events happening that week. We have 14 children who are able to walk with us - we would love some more. If you are able to walk with us, please do. I will share our meeting point next week.
Education Mass
Every year, all teachers, school staff and governors are invited to Lancaster Cathedral for the annual Education Mass. It is a beautiful service; with all of our school priests in attendance. The cathedral choir sing beautifully and it is a real celebration of all of the amazing work taking place in our schools up and down the diocese.
At the mass, there are commendations awarded for those new to role. Although not that new to role, I was commended for being a new headteacher in a Catholic School. I was joined by Mrs Needham and Mrs Funnell who were both commended for being new governors in a Catholic School. Our governing body work tirelessly to support us; I was so happy that I could share this mass with them both.
STAR Charter
Don’t forget to nominate for a distinction award if your child has done what they need. Any child is eligible for this, for their contribution to their world beyond school. Have they attended at least 3 family masses? Have they made something or cared for their local environment? Have they showed a commitment to this over time by volunteering? In order to nominate your child for the distinction award, please complete the form below telling us in detail about their acts of kindess and commitment. We have had some wonderful nominations in. These close on Friday 11th July - so please do nominate your child.
Leading Learners from across the school and STAR Virtues
I am in the process of reading all of the children’s reports; I am very nearly there. Once they have been read they can be printed. I am really hoping that these will be with you at the end of next week, if not the beginning of the last week of school.
Transition across school
This week has been such a lovely week as every child has had the opportunity to try something new. Our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children have all headed off to St Bedes to try life there through Prayer, Science and Technology and for our Year 6s, what they will experience come September. They had a fabulous time and learnt so much.
For the rest of our children, they all got to experience what life will be like for them in September when they start their new classes. Lots of questions were asked and new relationships discovered. It really has been a wonderful week in school.
Office News
As we approach the end of the year, and start to look ahead to next year, the All Stars booking form is now open. This is for the next academic year, from September. Please have a think about what provision is needed and complete the booking form accordingly. All children who currently use the wrap around care will be prioritised so please do not worry - we just need to know sooner rather than later.
Whole School Attendance
Our Mini-Vinnies want to hold a raffle for the RSPCA - tickets on sale Monday after school. Don’t forget about any uniform donations, there will be a stall on Monday 14th and 15th July.
I hope you enjoy the festival if you are managing to go and watch; enjoy the music and what it brings to Lytham! Let’s hope it is not too wet tonight.
God bless
Mrs Gregan
