Our school has been part of the Royal Shakespeare Associate Schools programme since September 2016. The programme is built around the principle of schools working in local partnerships to develop communities of practice. Our teachers work alongside RSC members-exploring one of Shakespeare’s plays through active drama strategies. This work is then shared with the children ultimately visiting the theatre to see live productions- we allow Shakespeare’s words to inspire the next generation. We have studied five plays so far and we have no intention of stopping (the children wouldn’t let us). During 2018/19 our “Shakespeare Ambassadors” have been on a mission to spread the word and this school blog is all part of their mission - read on!
What can I say about this week? It is hard to put into words what it’s like teaching Shakespeare to young children. The “active approaches” we have gained from working with the RSC transform the classroom into a place of self expression and exploration.
