Another week in Year 6 and another week full of magical moments. We have continued to look at the injustices in the world through the eyes of the people who tried to overcome them. Martin Luther King was the focus this week as we looked at his civil right movement. The children then read his I have a dream speech and in turn, wrote their own. After reading them today, our world is in great hands with these young people leading it - they were so profound for children so young. I will share a few on the blog next week.
In among all of the church practices for our carol concert next week, we have been continuing drive our maths learning forward and tackle short division, understand word classes and that they can belong to two different classes and understand inheritance and genetics in science. We used the Little Men and Little Miss family to take characteristics from each character and make their child. What traits can you see in your children that you know have come from you? The children shared some in class this week, always an interesting discussion. PE has been one of my favourite lessons this week. In outdoor PE the children have been creating their own hybrid invasion games and in gymnastics, really trying to master counter tension and counter balances. Have a look at our learning below…
Learning Awards
Well done to Megan and Adam this week for some really focused learning.
Megan has brimmed with confidence in short division this week and has offered a lot to the class. It has been great to see Megan and I can’t wait for you to really transfer this confidence into other areas.
Adam has consistently produced some outstanding work. He listens to feedback and aims to implement it into the next piece of work, whatever that is. Keep it up Adam!
Christmas Challenge - After Christmas, we will be starting a new writing topic on classic fiction. For homework over Christmas, I have set a film bingo. How many classic films can you watch as a family? Some of these films will be appearing over the next week or so, which is why I have given it you early. Have fun as a family, snuggle on the sofa and watch these films. What makes them a classic? What films do you prefer? We will be discussing them after half term.
