The weather may have grown a little colder and darker this week, but this hasn’t stopped Year 2 from working hard and reaching those goals! All of the adults working within Year 2 continue to be amazed by the children’s resilience, enthusiasm and compassion as we continue our learning journeys in these uncertain times. We are all so lucky to be learning in our little bubble and I am so proud of what the children are achieving each day.
The children have shown so much determination during maths lessons this week as we have continued to develop those addition and subtraction skills. We have looked at different strategies to use when solving these calculations and the children have chosen the ones that they find easiest and most efficient. We have also looked at bridging over tens, with the word ‘exchanging’ being used lots and lots within our lessons. Keep it up Year 2 - your progress in maths is wowing us all!
We have truly immersed ourselves in Fairy Tales this week by listening to, acting out and sequencing our favourite stories. Now that we all have our favourite characters and have lots of ideas for story plots and settings, we are ready to throw ourselves into some Fairy Tales with twists. I wonder how the characters that we know and love will be different in these? We can’t wait to find out next week!
Our RE sessions were beautiful this week with so many wonderful and thought provoking comments and ideas. We continued to delve deeper into the mysteries of the world which in turn led us to think about heaven. The class drew some fantastic illustrations of what they believe heaven to look like, with every child showcasing their thoughts and ideas in different ways. We then thought carefully about what we can do in our daily lives today to prepare for heaven in later life. Please see the photographs below, the children were all so proud of their work!
We also have more superb work to celebrate as the children created some poignant art work to commemorate Remembrance Day.
Let’s Celebrate
Theo, it has been wonderful to see you putting your hand up to share your ideas so openly with the class this week. You have listened so carefully to whole class teaching which in turn has given you the confidence to have a go. We have all loved having such a focused learner in class this week and it has been fantastic to see that proud smile of yours. A big well done Theo!
Wow Roseanna, you have been such a Focused Cooper Crab this week! You have been a whole body listener in every lesson and have managed any distractions around you really well. Your superb listening has meant that you have known exactly what to do in every lesson and you have worked so independently to complete your work. I am so proud of you Roseanna!

An exciting reading challenge - This week we received a box filled with wonderful books from the Lancashire Library service which we will have until after Christmas. I know that the children would absolutely love to bring these books home and share them with you, and so, I have set them a little challenge. If a child scores 100% on three reading quizzes in a row, they will get to choose a book from the special box to bring home on a Friday. These books are for reading for pleasure at home with families and so may not match up to your child’s ZPD reading level. They will still bring home a normal school reading book to read and quiz on as normal. If your child does bring one of these special books home with them, please can I ask that they are treated with great care. We do have to give them back to the library service in the excellent condition we received them in. We would also like these books to be returned on a Tuesday so that they have time to quarantine before going out with different children on the following Friday. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Good luck Year 2!
Although the weather is growing colder, we are still keeping doors and windows open in order to keep that air circulating round. Please ensure that your child has a couple of layers on as it can get cold in class. These can always be taken off if needed. Thank you.
Please can I remind you about the Home School Partnership form which I sent the link for with your child’s mid term report. If you have not yet completed this form please complete and submit it asap. Many thanks. (Click on the button below)
Have a lovely weekend.
God Bless,
Miss Woodend, Mrs Connolly, Mrs Malley and Mrs Carter
