Year 5 Weekly Blog "Give me a place to stand a lever long enough and I will move the Earth" Archimedes.

What a super busy week!!! Measuring in Newtons, exploring buoyance (upthrust) and investigating levers -some of the exciting tasks we have been set this week! Alongside this science we have redrafted our pen pal letters which are now ready to go off to Uganda! We now need to raise money next week! In RE we have explored the messages of the prophets and the life of Moses, a man of determination and deep faith. God made Moses a promise (covenant) and God kept it. However life was not easy for Moses as we discovered. In RHE we have been introduced to a new character in our class novel “The Midnight Fox” - Hazeline. This is a character full of insecurity and self doubt. Hazeline’s feeling led to a very earnest discussion in class about being judged. We went further exploring the issue of body image using our new RHE resources. The children love a good chat and exploration of big issues!! Mrs Nel has spent some time catching up on our spelling program and we began to learn how to create our own books using a special app when computing! As always we had a very constructive council session making changes to our routines to help make class life smooth, safe and happy.

Next week will be very different. Please note the key events for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday below! It should be great fun and a lovely way to end this challenging but for filling term.

FiNAL WEEK REMINDERS:

Please read the email sent on behalf of Miss Hornby - we are not able to receive any gifts into school. Thank you for working so closely with us.

Tuesday 15th Danceathon Day - everyone in PE Kit and Jolly hat (warm)! Please bring £1! This year the pound will go towards our class charity (St. Peters in Uganda).

Wednesday 16th Sponsored Read Day. Year 5 are raising money for their pen pals at St. Peters in Uganda. The Head Teacher Charles Weleba would like help to buy text books for the school library. The children can come to school dressed as a book character however, because of the current situation the costume MUST be warm easy to move and play in and we cannot have any props.

THURSDAY 17th Christmas Party Day. Sadly, we are not able to party alongside the other children but we will be celebrating Christmas in our class bubbles! Please come dressed for a party - WARM CLOTHES and dancing trainers. The children are asked to bring a drink (not fizzy) and two snacks - these can be chocolate bars and or crisp. Christmas dinner later in the day and a lovely short Christmas film with the perfect message!

God Bless
