We have had a fabulous week celebrating World Book day. On the day itself, the children’s outfits were so creative and it was clear a huge amount of effort had been put in. The smiles on the children’s faces when they saw each other were priceless.
As a school, we have based our English learning on the book “Journey” this week. This book is purely illustrations, so in Year 3, we decided to put all of our sentence work to good use, and write the text for the story. Our classroom has been full of creative Kiki Chameleons, as the children have carefully written interesting sentences. On Friday we took our book into Reception, and in groups, we read our version of the story to our reception friends! The children were desperate to share their story with you at home. We hope you enjoy listening to the children read with intonation.
In RE we have looked closely at the the story of Zacchaeus the tax collector. Through drama, we have retold this important piece of scripture, sharing the important message… Jesus always forgives. We have used this teaching to reflect on times we may have sinned, or somebody has sinned, and in doing so hurt us. Forgiveness is a pillar of importance in our faith, one which we ask for at times ourselves, and one which we must give to others.
We have also built on our home learning during our Science this week, as we investigated conductors and insulators of ELECTRCITY. We worked in groups to explore different materials to discover which ones are conductors of electricity and which aren’t. We still have a little more investigating to do next week and then we can write up or conclusions.
In French this week the children have learned to count to douze. We’ve even been using our new French words in our Maths lessons, when looking at equal and unequal parts. Can your child draw a shape with trois parties égales?
The children conducted a historical enquiry in History and investigated whether Claudius invaded Britain for the same reasons as Caesar. I was so impressed with how they weighed up the evidence and looked for clues in different historians accounts. We’ve also been writing about the physical geography of the Alps and Appenines in Italy. What a busy week!
Certificates
Jiana, you have been a real Keep Improving Lizzie Ladybird this week! It has been wonderful to see you really trying hard with your reading and quizzing. We love how you always ask for help if there is a word you don’t know the meaning of. You are such an active learner and want to grow your reading brain big and strong! Well done Jiana and keep reading!
Matilda, you have been such an enthusiastic learner this week. You have given every lesson your ‘everything’ and have worked beautifully with others in group challenges. Your enthusiasm for growing your brain is contagious and we’ve noticed that your learning partners have grown in their enthusiasm too. Well done Matilda, keep on buzzing!
Reminders
We seem to have children missing quite a few pieces of uniform. Please over the weekend, check that you have the correct uniform and that all your uniform is named.
As a class we have decided to not have PRIME bottles to drink out of; the bottles have caused a lot of disruption in the classroom. We kindly ask that all children have a water bottle that is clearly labelled with their name. Thank you for your understanding.
On Thursday next week the children are going to The Grand Theatre. Children should come to school dressed in their uniform and will be back in time for normal pick up. Further information can be found here.
