It has been a very special week, learning all about the King’s coronation ahead of this weekends festivities. We started off by learning all about our King, his life and discovering lots of very interesting facts about him… Did you know that he is able to fly and also dive? Or that he is a keen watercolour artist? In groups the children were given photographs of the King during an important event of his life. Once again, the children investigated their photograph to discover what event they had, and which year it happened. We then used this information to create a classroom timeline for his life. We have also created a ‘curiosity board’ where the children have written their own questions about the King, the Coronation or any other question they had regarding the Royal family. Well done to our class of Curious Clara Clownfishes!
The children learned about what happens during a Royal Coronation. I was so impressed with the children’s retrieval from Year One, when we learned about the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In groups, the children performed each part of the coronation: The Recognition; The Oath; The Anointing; The Investiture and Crowning and The Enthronement and Homage. They have learned all about these historic rituals and traditions, as well as how King Charles’ coronation will be different to Queen Elizabeth II’s. We then celebrated as a whole school with a jolly royal picnic, in the sunshine!
In English we have been very busy with our writing hats on! We have been creating different class versions of the story ‘The Greenling’. The children have now planned their own versions, and are prepped and ready to write their own stories independently at the start of next week. This will then close our topic of ‘The Greenling’ and will begin our penultimate topic, ‘The Iron Man’! In History, we have finished our topic on the Roman Empire and the impact on Britain. The children learned about why the Roman empire came to an end and designed coins to commemorate the legacy of the Romans.
