Year 2 weekly blog Friday 11th October "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." RL Stevenson

We explored what it means to be part of God’s family this week. We discovered that the church is not actually a building but the people who come together to worship God and live like Jesus. We discovered that these people are called Christians and we are Christians! To become a member of this church family we are baptized. The sacrament of Baptism is very beautiful and a very happy occasion. We found out what happened at our own baptisms. Next week on Tuesday we will be reenacting a baptism (in small groups). It would be nice for us to have baby dolls as props. Please bring on Tuesday!

I’m creating a display in class all about baptism. It would be wonderful to have pictures of the children’s baptisms- could you please email them to me - many thanks

On Tuesday this week Eliana, Aubree and Benjamin led us in a beautiful worship during which we had some quiet time with God. Below too is a picture of our classroom alter - full to the brim with cans of veg!!! Thank you!

MAGIC MOMENTS

We have been introduced to a wonderful book “The Great Fairytale Disaster”. The big bad wolf gets himself into a real pickle as he tries to find a new fairytale. We had to write a letter of apology to Cinderella! We are learning to say the story orally - which is fun too. In addition to this we have been introduced to the subordinating conjunction “when” and we’ve had a go at popping it into sentences. In maths we are counting efficiently grouping in tens and then seeing how many ones are left over. In Music we explored call and response patterns and in PE we really developed out sequences in gym. The highlight of the week though is probably all the science we have completed. Firstly, we learnt all about “gathering data” and using a tally chart. To practice we looked for different shaped leaves in the school grounds (see below) - then tallied what we found. Then on Thursday we went out to investigate what living creatures we could find- again we made a tally chart on which we collected the data. Finally, on Wednesday we took part in our half termly enrichment afternoon. This time we had Miss Hanlon and together we got practical as photographers - see us in action below!!

CONVERSATION STARTER - GOING DEEPER

Can you make a tally chart at home? You could count creatures in your garden or leaves in the park. You could collect data on the types of cars passing you house (colours or make). I would love to see your tally chart. Remember it has three columns like the one shown here.
