Year 6 Weekly Blog - 'The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence'

This week we have celebrated the risen Lord in our school chapel, how we can grow in our relationship with God and how we can be His true disciples. We shared how throughour faith we know Jesus is still among us and talked about all the things they have not yet seen, but know it is there. This is closely related to our new virtues of the half term- Learned and Wise. Finding God in all things and using His teachings wisely in our everyday lives to work for the common good.

Wow what a start to the summer term! We have all come back so well rested and ready to take on the challenges of the term! We have shown so much focus, bravery, reflection and most of all resilience this week! We could not ask the children to work any harder. This week we have received feedback from the reading paper we completed before half term and it is so wonderful to see them, not just focusing on their marks but celebrating their progress scores from previous paper. They are so reflective and have mastered a real positive approach, where they celebrate their successes but look carefully at the areas they know they need to work on, working in their learning partners to help one another…

What have we been learning this week?

Learning has been full on and fast paced this week. I am so impressed by the attitude of the children and their desire to make progress.

English - This week we have looked at the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet and looked at all the arguements both for and against as to whether Juliet SHOULD take the potion Friar Lawerence has given her. We were very impressed with all of the children’s valid arguements… I feel a debate coming on next week!

Maths - We have enjoyed maths this week, it has been challenging but we have been up for it! We have thrown oursleves in to finding perecetnages of amounts and looking at SAT’s style reasoning questions on Area, Perimeter and Volume.

Geography- This week we have looked at the main rivers of the UK and found out some funfacts around these!

With a bank holiday coming up, and only a few weeks to go until May, every day is crucial. Please ensure that your children are in school on time to maximise every learning opportunity.

Delving deeper through talk …

Every week now I am going to give you a question that I would like you to explore together and discuss at home. This could be over the dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. How ever you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

How have you chosen wisely this week?

How could you use your learning next week for the common good?

Learned and Wise butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are learned in their actions, finding God in all things. Those who are wise, who use their learning for the common good. These children are the role models of the school, who drive their own learning and who have the wisdom to know when and how to apply one’s learning. This week we thank Max for working for the common good of our classroom this week.

Leading Learners

Well done to Stanley and Molly-Ann this week.

Stanley you have thoroughly got involved in learning this week and pushed yourself to be better each day. You have listened carefully in lessons, applied this to your work and managed those distractions really well this week- keep this up!

Molly-Ann, you have been so resilient and focused this week on your learning. You are trying your hardest and even when you have come across challenges this week, you haven’t given up. Keep up with your positive approach!
