Year 2 Weekly Blog 19th April "When the Holy Spirit is present anything is possible"

This week we celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit in our RE lessons. Firstly, we listened to the bible (Acts of the Apostles), then we we reflected on paintings depicting this exciting event. The children explored what they could see - the violent wild, the fire and the dove floating above. Using these images, as an inspiration, the children used pastels, chalks and crayons to produce beautiful pictures of this special moment for the disciples. Below are pictures of us lost in this creative lesson.

Later in the week Bonny, Elise and Jude Cuff led us in worship - they shared a psalm with us - one that praised God - they then asked us all to reflect on where we see God in the every day. The children responded beautifully:

I see God in the love of my mummy when I am ill.

I see God when we are kind to one another.

I see God on the beach when the sun comes through the clouds,

MAGIC MOMENTS

The children were so focused when we completed our reading quizzes for Mr Dawson. During the second quiz Mr Dawson said he would help us with the definition of a word - the word was “predator”. The children got so excited - hands shot up. Every member of the class could explain what it meant!! We have explored “prey” and “predator” as part of our food chain work in science. To go with this understanding we have made large food chains to show how creatures can be both prey and predator. In maths we are gaining a deep and growing understanding of multiplication and we are seeing patterns in the 2 times-table. In music we explored dynamics and introduced the words forte, piano, crescendo, diminuendo and mezzo. For the warm up we videoed our sound scape from last week - called “Out in Space” (see below). We painted in art, played 20th century chase games in PE and we explored “what community means” in HRSE - so much learning!!

CREATIVE CONVERSATION

The children have LOVED sewing - they have made pouches. Plan and make a pouch to hold something special at home.
