Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 14th November "For you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him"Luke 1:76

What a lovely week! In RE we rememembered the fallen and how courageous they were. Mia, Poppy and Antinio were our prayer leaders and they led use beautifully as we created a oral poem about peace. George made an amazing cross full of poppies and more poppies for the altar - see the piture below. In our RE lessons we enjoyed learning all about Zechariah and is wife Elizabeth who had a visit from the Angel Gabriel. Zechariah did not believe it when the angel told him that he and his wife would have a son. Because of this the Angel took his voice away. The children made little puppets that they took back home. Alongside these were the words Zechariah said when his voice returned at John’s baptism.

We also understand that John is Jesus’ cousin and another prophet!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

This week during our My Happy Mind lessons we learned more about the brain. We discovered the brain grows!!! Everytime we learn and try hard at something the brain builds pathways this is called NEUROPLASICITY. We made an action to go with our new word - ask us to show you.

Have you ever had to work hard at something and practice it over and over and over to help your brain connect and grow? Share these times with your child. It’s good to know everyone finds it hard at times.

MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING

I cannot tell you how proud I am of the whole class. They have completed one planning session and three long writes this week in English. The final one was completedly independently. The quality of the work in class is simply wonderful! We have been creative and everyone has tried their best to include the grammar features we have learnt together. In maths we’ve matched the homework focusing on our mental maths skills - having fun doubling and near doubling up to 20. It was important to see the hidden 5 in a number to make it easier to double. In science we classified animals as vertebrae and invertebrae and in geography we explored physical features. Our spelling covered “oi and “ar” and we welcomed Miss Drummond to teach us on Wednesday. We are super computer coders and we love art with Mrs Mather I hope you loved the creations we brought home. On Thursday we broke ground in the hall as we started the nativity play.

Finally, on Friday we were visited in class by the Fire Brigade. They shared with us importnat messages about fire plans in the home. Please read the leaflets that came home with your child.

LET’S CELEBRATE

This week our Virtue Star is Jemima. We could award Jemima a virtue star all the time, she shines in class. Always full of hope, joy and peace. She has deep faith in herself and her friends.

Our certificate this week goes to Rebecca. You have been a Sadie Spider and an Isabella Insect listening so carefully to the teachers - digging deep and reponding.
