And so we arrive at the end of the Autumn term, and what a wonderful term it has been! The children have grown in so many ways and this week we valued more than ever our loving friendships. What are celebrations without others to share them with? We are a lovely class family - held in the heart of a great school/parish family.
This week we got to share Christmas traditions with the older children as we joined them for their beautiful Carol Concert on Tuesday. Back in class we investigated Christmas traditions in another country. We dicocovered that Mexico as many Catholics and they celebrate Las Posadas. This is is a traditional nine-day religious festival, that commemorates the journey of Mary and Joseph as they sought shelter in Bethlehem before Jesus's birth. The word "posada" means "inn" or "lodging" in Spanish. Neighbours travel from house to house and at the end those dressed up are invited in for a big party- with lots of food. The children hit a star shaped Pinata and sweets spill to the floor. We didn’t want to miss out and we had a star pinata in class for our last day! We discovered that food and family are at the heart of Christmas here and in other places and we can’t wait to be at home with those we love so much!
Guess who came to visit us at the Christmas party!
A very good sign we have all been very good!
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
Traditions, children love traditions. I know in class if I miss anything out of our annual routine the children let me know straight away. Traditions bring us together. We are able to prepare and share and this can feel exciting. What family traditions will you be keeping this year? Here is a lovely website listing traditions from around the world - if you could pick one to add to your traditions? What would it be?
MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING
This week was full of festivities and fun. We have handcrafted Christmas cards - we hope you love them. We’ve been creative in art and computing - the theme “christmas”. We have joined Miss Drummond for enrichment on Monday and party day was loads of fun. Lessons included a STEM challenge joining lolly sticks to make antlers and if they were strong enough to hold a candy cane you got to keep the cane! We had a sneaky game of Christmas bingo too! On the final day the teachers performed their annual never to be missed staff panto. The Christmas raffle was enormous fun and the final assembly was a celebration of everyone. There are quite a lot of pictures today!
TIME TO CELEBRATE
This week the children were asked to vote for a friend, a classmate that they thought had worked extremely hard in class and was a super friend on the playground. As you can imagine so many children were voted for! In the end the teachers agreed with this decision.
The learner for this half term is Rose.
Rose the children said that you were a fun friend. You are also kind and helpful. We have all seen how hard you have worked on your reading, writing and maths. You never ever give up and we thank you for being a great role model.
REMINDERS
Back to school Monday 5th January
TRIP - MARTIN MERE Monday 9th February. Are you able to join us for our trip to find out more about birds? Please email if you would like to join us.
READING BOOKS I have given the children 2 reading books over Christmas, can you please read them before we return so they are ready to quiz when we get back. I reset the children’s reading target back to zero and they are then set a challenge of reaching the 100% target. This is acheieved by quizzing at least once or twice a week. A lot of children reached this target this term, but a number also fell short and were disappointed - please help us get off to a great start on our return. Thank you!
Finally from Miss Foster and myself - thank you for al your wonderful support it is very much appreciated. Have the best holiday- God Bless x
