This week we studied the coming of the Holy Spirit. The children reflected on this historic event thorough the eyes of artists and their paintings. These images depicted the awe and wonder of this moment. In response the children produced their own “Coming of the Holy Spirt” artwork. These wonderful pictures can be seen below and will adorn our walls as we head towards Pentecost. The children shared the Holy Rosary in worship too this week. I noticed members of our class praying with their beads outside and I asked if they would like to lead us in a second Rosary in the school chapel - it was lovely! On Thursday we had some reflective time too on VE day and on those who fought for us so we could live and worship freely - to them all thank you!
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
This week in science we re-examined our seeds. All week they have been sitting in a warm spot in class. We’ve kept them wet. These seeds are no longer dormant - they have used the energy inside the seeds to germinate. I challenged the children in science to explain the process of germination using the following words.
Germination seed energy water warmth root shoot leaves.
Ask your child to explain the process put some seeds plant and germinate them - send us pictures!
Use the image to help you explain the process in order!
MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING
This week we dived into the tropical rainforest. We discovered that this hot and wet forest spreads across 4 different continents! We watched videos to discover just how vast and important it is. The children completed pictures - there was so much lovely detail included! Later, we studied the Yanomami people of the Amazon. We thought like Geographers - looking at how they lived sustainably in their environment. We learnt new words like: indigenous, remote, isolated and tribe. In maths we’ve made a wonderful connection between the 10 and 5 timetables. We have realized that 5 is half of ten and ten is double five and because of that we saw patterns in the timetables! We even had children on the playground playing maths lessons - I had to come up with some super challenging calculations! As you can see from above we continued to investigate germination in science and in spelling we have mastered the apostrophe for possession. Mrs Mather loved art - she finds teaching us a real treat and both Miss Woodend and Miss Basset have been in class. I have to say that Miss Bassett’s “telling the time” lessons have hit the mark - the children are continually telling me the time! Thank you for the learning watches that many of the children are wearing - they do make such an impact. Finally, on Thursday we joined our Year 2 learning partners for a fun picnic on VE day!
