Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 27th June "To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your path, and don't worry about the darkness!" W Emerson

This week we completed our Star Charter challenge. Our final challenge was CST: Catholic Social Teaching. We had to explore one aspect of Catholic Social Teaching through a book. We choose “Human Dignity” and read the story of “Amazing Grace” by Mary Hoffman. Firstly, we explored what Human Dignity is - CAFOD has a set of characters that explain each one. The character we looked at was Luc the Reindeer. Luc celebrated everyone’s differences. In the story children excluded Grace because of her gender and race- but she learned that she can do and be anything she wants and the other children in the story learn this too. We had a wonderful discussion in class a real highlight of the year! Here is a picture of our Human Dignity posters display

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

Would you like to know more about Catholic Social Teaching. Watch this CAFOD video together, it is beautifully done and child friendly. Click on the image to open the link.

MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING

We’ve explored lifeboats old and new, completed some very tricky maths quizzes and planned creatively in food tech. We continue with the story of Aladdin and we’ve made fantastic posters inviting people to come and watch Prince Ali arrive! In computing we made an interactive story book all about Grace Darling. Once again an extremely busy week! We’ve purchased our trees to go in the school garden and below you can see us with them - ask your child what type of trees there are!

LET’S CELEBRATE

This week our STAR virtue winner is Matilda always loving and caring - a really joy to have around!

Our learning certificate goes to Ronnie - you are a real Bobby Bee and a Roger Robin - thinking about the needs of others and always ready with a helping hand!

REMINDERS

Trip next Wednesday - we are off to the Lifeboat station to find out more. We’ll be visiting the Mexico Disaster memorial too. Then a picnic on the lawn before time on the beach and then to the park for ice-lollies. The children will need plenty of sunscreen applied before school (weather forecast is good). They’ll also need sun hat, water bottle and their PE kit. Packed lunch is provided by school for those who take a school dinner on Wednesday.

Have a lovely weekend form the whole Year 2 Team.
