This week in our liturgy, our focus word has been forgiveness, which links closely to the Gospel reading from Matthew 18:21-35, The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. In this parable, Jesus teaches us that just as God forgives us with great mercy and love, we should also be willing to forgive others when they make mistakes or upset us. The servant who was forgiven a huge debt refused to forgive someone who owed him far less, reminding us that true forgiveness should come from the heart. In our school community, this message encourages us to show kindness, understanding and compassion towards one another, whether it is resolving disagreements, accepting apologies or giving others a second chance. By choosing forgiveness, we help to build stronger friendships and create a happier, more welcoming environment for everyone. If God forgives us so generously, shouldn't we strive to do the same for others?
MAGIC MOMENTS…
This week in Year 5, the children have continued to impress me with their positive attitudes to learning and the effort they are putting into everything they do. They are working incredibly hard, trying their best in every lesson, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence growing.
In English, the children have now completed their letters written as evacuees writing home during World War II. They have worked so thoughtfully on these pieces, using the features of persuasive and descriptive writing to bring their experiences to life. I cannot wait to read and mark them all!
We also entered an exciting competition to win a visit from Katie Kirby, the author of the popular Lottie Brooks series. As part of our entry, the children had to write a one-sentence review of her books. I was so impressed by their creativity and enthusiasm, and the reviews were so fantastic that I genuinely feel we have a chance of winning!
In Maths, we have continued our learning about tenths, building our understanding of decimals and fractions. The children have been counting in tenths, making links between fractions and decimals, and showing great determination as they tackle new challenges.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
We have done our second Kidsafe lesson this week, where children thought about what bullying is and reflected on how it makes others feel. They even thought about the mind of the bully and what could be going on underneath. Please read the letter below outlining the main points.

Loving and Compassionate Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do. Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Marla for always being compassionate and loving with others.
Greek Day at Our Lady’s for Year 5 on 6th October- On this day, the Heritage Learning of Lancashire is coming to school, to unravel the mysteries of Ancient Greece whilst investigating the stories behind Democracy, City States and Greek treasures. We will learn about Alexander the Great and what is the connection between a sad face and a smiley face? We will delve into myths and legends, theatre, sport and home life to build a vivid picture of this ancient civilisation. We may even try a spot of greek dancing! To get the full experience, it would be wonderful if we all dressed up in Ancient Greek clothing, we might even spot a few greekv gods and goddesses! Payment for the Heritage visit is now live on parent pay. Here are a few ideas to help to get you started on planning the costumes…
