Year 2 Weekly Blog 5th September ""When it rains, look for rainbows; when it's dark, look for stars"

What a wonderful start! We’ve all come back to school ready to learn! What has impressed Miss Foster and I the most is our collective “can do” approach to everything! Just great!!

Mrs Gregan joined us this week to share our class worship as we renewed our commitment to the Jubilee Year of Hope. In response to the call for a world of peace and love we made doves to display on our new classroom door - you will see them as you visit this term. We have also reflected on the bible and we now know that there are two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. Did you know that the New Testament begins with the birth of Jesus. We’ve also listened to and retold the story of Noah and the Ark. Hopefully you will see in class, during induction evening, the rainbow blowers we have made! When a rainbow appears we feel the presence and promise of God.

LET’S GO DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

Take time to think about all the aways we keep ourselves safe, from helmets and seat belts to holding hands and sharing worries.

Feelings are all good. Even those feelings that make us feel sad, worried or scared. These “yucky feelings” are telling us that we need to reach out for help. This week we revisited our KidSafe lessons reminding us about how we keep ourselves and one another save. Click on the button to open the parents letter - this communicates what was covered in lesson one. You might find a good time to reinforce the messages shared in the coming week

MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING

Grouping objects into tens in maths, opening a parcel from the Jolly Postman in English and exciting art have all featured in our lovely week of learning. The Jolly Postman sent us all a letter and some gifts in a parcel posted to school. In response we are going to read the book and send lots of letters of our own. Speaking of lettters, the children now have a tray in class and waiting for them this week was a letter from a child in Year 3. These letters were lovely written by the last class welcoming them into Year 2. Miss Woodend is teaching on Wednesday (currently) and she too had a wonderful day teaching computing, music and shapes! I’ll post pictures once the consent is given (see form below).

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Art shirts/t-shirt for Wednesday’s art lesson. These can be kept in their classroom tray.

Induction evening - meeting the Year 2 team nest Wednesday 10th 3:30pm or 5:00pm

On Monday we’ll join the parish for Mass on Our Lady’s birthday - if you can walk with us that would be great set of 9:05am.

Homework is handed in every Monday morning and goes out each Tuesday after school. The homework page goes live on Tuesday when it is shared with the children. This weekend I have asked you to decorate your new homework book. It is great to see this lovingly done with interesting paper, images of family, pets and hobbies - reflecting your personality.

We have trips coming up and I’ll be keen to organise volunteers asap so that I can complete paperwork.

Parish Centre coffee morning Friday 17th October

Trip to Blackpool Zoo Monday October 20th

Trip to St. Annes Library Tuesday October 21st

Trip to the Lifeboat station Friday 28th November

Please complete these important form below - thank you.

Finally, thank you for your patience at the door at the end of the day. I will get to know and remember faces. Keeping the children safe and handing them over with care can take a little more time at the beginning of the year.

Have a wonderful weekend.
