Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 30th January

We hope you all enjoyed our assembly. We were so excited about performing it for the school and our families. When deciding how to share the Catholic Social teaching of Dignity, I wanted to tell a story. Of course Dr Seuss is such a great story teller - each poem has an important message/moral. When I picked up the “Sneetches on the Beaches” I could see how much fun it would be to perform. Each rehersal was joyful and we were a really great team - one of our shared Character Strengths (my happy mind lessons). In RE this week we built on our understanding of what happened to Jesus after his baptism. Did you know he went into the dessert for 40 days and 40 nights and there he met the devil! Jesus did not give into temptation and came away ready to serve God. We also decided what qualities we needed to make a good disciple. Would you make a good disciple?

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

Love of Live and the World - this is one of our Character Strengths. We know that loving life and enjoying God’s world makes us feel great. We also know that the more we do something the stronger this becomes part of our character. What could you plan to do this coming week that engages with God’s beautiful world? You could:

Walk in nature, forest bathe, walk to the sea or go out bird watching.

While your out and about stop and think about how the spaces make you feel.

MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING

Alongside the assembly we have explored what made the Wright Brothers so special. We thought hard about what they had to do to succeed. We discovered that never gave up and this was crucial to their sucesss. In science, we expanded our vobulary and described different items using labels including: brittle, transluscent, rigid, durable and flexible. In maths we have spotted lots of number bonds and now we are adding and bridging over different multiples of ten (this will come home for homework). Spelling has been fun - lots of new words and a new spelling rule for purals. During English we researched owls in a great deal of detail. Below is a picture of all the facts we have collected and organised. We have already started to write a factual page all about owls. Next week we move onto penguins!

LET’S CELEBRATE

This week our Learner of the week is Emmett. We are so proud of your continued growth as a mathematician. Keep up all the hard work!

Our Virtue Star this week is Kira. Choosing our words carefully and being kind to all our friends is something Kira is great at - Thank you!

Here are two reading target groups - one is the 200% club and the other the 100% club. Two more weeks to go to get that reading target!
