This week our Word of the Week has been light. We talked about how Jesus is the Light of the World and how He asks us to shine our own lights too. We shared ideas about how we can do this by being kind, helpful, forgiving others and making good choices every day.
We also learned what Jesus means when He says we should be the salt of the earth. Salt helps food taste better and keeps it good, and Jesus wants us to make the world a better place by loving others, telling the truth and doing what is right. When we follow Jesus, we help God’s love spread.
In the Gospel from Matthew 5:13–16, Jesus tells us to let our light shine so others can see our good deeds and praise God. God wants us to follow Him, be like Jesus and grow in love and faith as we shine our light in the world
In RE this week, we read the Parable of the Sower and thought carefully about what Jesus was teaching us through the story. We talked about how seeds need the right conditions to grow, just like people need love, care and faith to grow closer to God.We then started our own investigation by planting seeds and exploring the best conditions for growth. Over the next few weeks, we will take care of our seeds, observe any changes and write up our findings as we learn how looking after something helps it grow.
Going deeper in conversation.
Gravity is an unseen, non-contact force that pulls things to the ground. If, for the duration of the next Summer Olympic Games, the force of gravity halved, how the different events and records would be affected. For example, would jumpers jump higher, gymnasts and divers complete more rotations, throwers throw further, hurdlers clear hurdles with less effort? What do you think?
This week’s learning.
This week in Maths, we have been learning different strategies for finding the difference, using practical resources and number lines to support our thinking. In English, the children have been writing their final adapted Iron Man stories, working independently and responding to feedback from their first drafts. In French, we wrapped up warm and enjoyed playing playground games while practising numbers 1–12. In Science, we explored non-contact forces and watched video all about Sir Isaac Newton.
For art next week (Tuesday), please bring in an empty cereal box. If you have a spare please bring that too, we always need some extras.
