This week our Word of the Week has been Transfiguration. We listened to the story from the Gospel of Mathew 17:1–9 where Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a mountain and they see him shining in glory. We talked about how this special moment helped the disciples understand more about who Jesus is and reminded us to listen to him.
As we begin the season of Lent, the children spent time thinking carefully about how they can grow closer to God and show kindness to others. Everyone made their own Lenten promises, choosing things they will try to do during Lent such as helping at home, being kinder to friends, or taking time to pray. We also swapped our Lenten boxes with the children in Nursey.
Lenten Prayer books have been sent home this week, every child in class will have the opportunity to bring a prayer book home and write their own pray in them, here’s a little snapshot of this weeks.
In our RE lesson this week, we learned about how God provides for his people. We listened to the story of manna in the desert from the Book of Exodus and talked about how God gave the Israelites food when they were hungry and unsure what would happen next.
We also read the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 in the Gospel of Matthew and discussed how Jesus showed care and compassion for the crowd by sharing the loaves and fish.
To help us understand the story better, we went outside and re-enacted the miracle on the playground. The children worked together to act out the different parts of the story, which helped us imagine what it might have been like to be there. It was a fun and memorable way to explore how God looks after people and how sharing what we have can help others.
Going deeper in conversation.
Lent Prayer Intentions - How many can you complete as a family? This ties in beautifully with our virtues in school this half term - Intentional and Prophetic.
This week’s learning.
This week in our learning, we began exploring information leaflets in English and looked closely at the features of information texts, such as headings, subheadings and key facts. We read a short paragraph about the Romans and created our own glossary of unfamiliar words to help us understand the topic better. The children were very curious and used “question hands” to help them think of questions they would like to find out about the Romans. In maths, we have been developing our understanding of additive relationships by using the bar model to write addition and subtraction equations. In PE, we practised our throwing and catching skills and had lots of fun playing a Roman-themed game together. We also finished our class novel - The Wild Robot. In science this week, we have been learning about magnets and how they work. We explored magnetic poles and discovered that some poles attract each other while others repel. The children enjoyed investigating which ends of the magnets would pull together and which would push away, and we talked about what we noticed during our experiments.

Our Virtue star this week has been awarded to Ruby
Our Learning Star is Arthur
You are a determined learner, you are working really hard with your reading and spellings. In class we have noticed that you are becoming more independent with your writing and try to use strategies to help yourself before seeking help from an adult.
