Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 20th March - “Nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring.” —Saint Catherine of Siena

March 20, 2026 Lesley Hotchkiss

Our word of the week has been resurrection. In liturgy we listened to the story of Lazarus (John 11) and thought carefully about the meaning of compassion, reflecting on how Jesus showed care and love to others. We thought about who is compassionate towards us and how they show that compassion.

We’re now half way though Lent, the children’s lenten promises are linked together on our class worship table to help keep them at the forefront of our mind. As a class we have been saying extra prayer at the end of each day as we head towards Easter. It was lovely to gather as a whole school today for Mass with Father Peter.

In RE, we also looked closely at Holy Communion, learning about what happens at the First Holy Communion and made links to to the Last Supper.

Going deeper in conversation

Can you tell your family all about the First Holy Communion? How do we prepare for it? What will happen at your First Holy Communion? Think about the presentation you made in class.

This week’s learning.

In Maths, we have continued developing our column addition skills and have begun regrouping ones, building our confidence with more challenging calculations. In English, we created blackout poems based on Roman health and medicine and have been practising organising our ideas into clear paragraphs. We also carried out research on Hadrian’s Wall and used Purple Mash to create our own quizzes.

We have also been busy practising for our Easter worship. Please continue to practise lines at home—we can’t wait to share it with you

Swimming

Next week will be our last swimming lesson, I am so proud of the progress all children have made. Well done year 3!
