READING
Please continue to practise the sound cards brought home and enjoying stories at home together.
This week every child has come home with a pre-reading book. We hope you enjoy sharing this story discussing what can be seen in the illustrations, what we think might happen next and why. You could also have a go at create your own narrative for each story. All of these skills are not to be undervalued and are key tools for your child as they begin their reading journey. Understanding illustrations and referring to them when reading will most certainly help them to gain an understanding of new vocabulary and build their confidence when reading.
MATHS
Thank you for having a go and enjoying the bingo game! This week we have continued our subitising skills and expanded on this using the key mathematical vocabulary: “more than” “fewer than” to compare quantities. In class we did this through our puppets and then we played the subitising game which you will practise at home this week. First, share the cards out between players. Keep your cards in a pile faced down. Player 1 puts their first card down, player 2 then puts there’s on top. If player 2’s card has “more” spots then they can take the pile of cards, if it has “fewer than” we leave the cards in the middle and continue taking it in turns to place one card down, only taking the pile of cards when we spot “more than”. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the game. (If wanting to avoid winning/losing you could play this game via teddies).
HANDWRITING
This week we have been practising recognising and forming the letters: f, e, l and h.
Pen Disco time and this week we have practised forming squares. Remember to get a great song playing while we make those marks, can you make both large and smaller squares? How straight can you get each line? Are your lines near to the same length like a square? Remember to: Nip, Flip and Grip your pens!
