And just like that, we have started our summer term (our last term in Year 5!). You wouldn’t be able to tell that we had been off for a week as the children have jumped straight back into their school routines and learning has lifted off yet again. Our RE reflections this week have looked at the relationship between Peter and Jesus. We looked into the life of Peter and what made him so inspirational and one of Jesus’ most trusted disciples. We also analysed the strength of his faith by looking through bible passages to find examples of both strong and weak faith towards Jesus.
We have just finished our multiplication topic, by using our knowledge of factors and multiples to solve word problems. We have now begun our final Maths topic of year 5 (yes a 12 week topic!) of fractions. Just like our previous topics, this carries a large amount of times tables knowledge in which us being super speedy, will be vital in achieving those expected targets at the end of the year. In English, we are looking at discussions, arguments and debates. We started with some ‘rapid reasoning’ games in order to build our arguments, whilst also learning the difference between our three key words. We have had a very exciting indoor PE lesson, where we revisited our prior skills of counter balance movements in gymnastics- but this time with the apparatus!

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are attentive and discerning. This week our star goes to Lena. By this point in our academic year, and preparing for Year 6, becoming independent learners is a huge part of being an upper KS2 child. I just love how you are always attentive to following simple instructions and you do this at the first time of asking. This allows you to focus more time on your learning. Keep it up!
Learner of the Week goes to Nathan. You have picked up in this final half term exactly where you left off before Easter-super focused across all of our lessons whilst showing such enthusiasm to learn and challenge yourself. This has been seen especially throughout our Maths and Science topics this week. Keep up the excellent work.

Trip to the Grand 7th May- We will be seeing a live performance of ‘The Boy in the Back of the Class’ - a novel in which the children will be reading in Year 6. Payment is now live on parentpay. Children will be leaving school at 1pm and we will be picked up via a coach at 4:30pm. We will be back at school around 5pm. Please make sure your child has provisions for being picked up at this time.
Trip to Lancaster Castle and Police Museum 14th May- Our final history topic of the year will be ‘Crime and Punishment’ , in which this trip offers a detailed tour through history. Payment is now live on parentpay.
Swimming Gala Friday 22nd May- Mrs Gregan will be releasing details in regards to children’s interest and trail sessions for our swimming gala.
