Year 2 end of Half Term Blog Friday 22nd May "Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes—including you."— Anne Lamott

This week the children have been given time to reflect on how the Holy Spirit is made alive in their own lives. We thought hard about the Gifts of the Spirit and how we can use them in our everyday interactions. The children can feel the happiness when they spread kindness, love and generosity. We have been most curious about self control. We are only 6 and 7 but we know that we have to hold back at times and wait - allowing others to go first. After this, we studied St Catherine of Siena. While we learnt about her life we were challenged to recognise when and how she used the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. She was a real inspiration to us all! On Tuesday our pray leaders planned a beautiful worship - their theme- Pentecost. The children are so good at planning their own liturgy, this one had candles, symbols and prayer cards to take home!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

We’ve reached our lovely long May holiday! This is a time for family and fun. I know you’ll be on trips abroad and wonderful local days out too. Why not take a pack of playing cards with you. Play 21 (BlackJack). The children will need to use their mental maths skills to play. This game will expose the children to all their number facts to 20, plus those importnat bridging skills. All while trying to win!

MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING

The children have been working so hard on their addition facts, we’ve seemlessly moved from money to addition of two digit numbers. When exploring the equations we’re indentifying number facts all the time. We have to spot if the equation will bridge or not and twhen we need to apply partitioning and recombining - Mrs Hotchkiss loves these lessons, and we have been so enthusiastic and focused! Miss Brookes has loved teaching RE and history this week, there was an audible sad groan when she said it was our final Florence Nightingale lesson. Mrs Mather has loved DT and we completed our dance lessons “by the seaside” putting all the elements together! We said welcome back to Miss Lavelle, who spent Wednesday quizzing us individually on our spellings and number facts to 20. The highlight of the week however without a doubt was the morning we spent with the beautiful Mrs Tierney in Forest School - I think the pictures speak for themselves!

LET’S CELEBRATE

This week the children have voted for the two children who have stood out for them as a learner and a child who is intentional and prophetic.

The children have rewarded Arya as a wonderful learner and role model. The children noticed that she is always ready to learn, she gives 100% everyday and she actively listens to the teachers and her many different learning partners.

The children overwhelmingly voted for Jack for their Virtue Star. Jack is so kind and generous of spirit. Jack is always the first to celebrate others and his smile can make his friends feel OK and safe!

Finally - thank you!

Miss Brookes, Miss Forster and Mrs Hotchkss wish you all a lovely holiday

God Bless x
