On Wednesday, we celebrated our first Mass of the school year, and the children were a wonderful presence in church. Those who read, read beautifully and the whole class were a shining example to the rest of the school as they sat with Year 3 at the front of church. Their maturity, reverence and respectful behaviour throughout the Mass made us incredibly proud.
We know that some children may have been disappointed that they did not have the opportunity to read or take part in the offertory this time, but there will be many more opportunities throughout the school year for everyone to become involved. We look forward to seeing lots more of our Year 6 children taking on these important roles and helping to lead our school community in prayer and worship.

This week’s learning…
This week in RE, we have been exploring the theme of Creation. We reflected on the second creation story in Genesis, thinking carefully about the messages God is sharing with us through the story.We explored how this account demonstrates God’s deep love and compassion for humanity, particularly through the way He recognised Adam’s need for companionship. This led us to reflect on the importance of our relationships with both God and one another, and how we are called to care for and support each other.
We also explored the scientific explanations for the origins of our world, including the Big Bang theory and evolution. This encouraged some fascinating discussions as we considered whether science and religion are compatible and asked the big question: Can we believe in both science and God?
The children shared some thoughtful ideas and demonstrated great curiosity as they explored these important questions, listened respectfully to different viewpoints and developed their understanding of both faith and science.
In Maths this week, we have continued exploring different calculation structures, including multiplicative and additive structures. The children have been building and representing these structures and discussing how they can use them to help reason through and solve word problems. We have also been exploring the properties of shapes with Mrs Harrison, revisiting the names and key features of both regular and irregular shapes.
Induction Evening
It was lovely to see so many of you at our Induction Evening on Wednesday. Thank you for taking the time to come along and for your continued support as we begin what is such an important and exciting year for your children.
Year 6 is a significant milestone in your child’s primary school journey, bringing with it new challenges, opportunities and responsibilities. We want every child to make the most of this final year, achieve their full potential and, most importantly, finish their primary school journey with a real sense of pride and achievement.We know that the strongest outcomes for children come when school and home work together, and we look forward to working closely with you throughout the year to support, encourage and celebrate your children every step of the way.

Leadership Roles and Responsibilities
After a week of gathering vocabulary, exploring formal language and analysing examples of formal letter writing, House Captain speeches and Class Council speeches, we finally reached the exciting point where the children were told their positions of responsibility in our leadership assembly.
The children spoke with such passion, confidence and sincerity in their videos as they addressed their houses and put themselves forward for votes. We could not be prouder of every child who took part, had the courage to step outside their comfort zone and give it a go. Each video was unique and showcased the many different gifts, talents and skills within our Year 6 children – all of which will be invaluable as they work together as a team and take on their roles as school leaders.
The children will officially begin their jobs and responsibilities when we return from Casterigg next week. We cannot wait to see how they grow into their roles throughout the year and, most importantly, the positive legacy they leave within our school community.
The children understand that every role in Year 6 is important to the smooth running of our school, and that we must work together, support one another and play our part in making our school a beautiful place to be.
We have every confidence that the children will embrace their new responsibilities, rise to the challenges and truly make their roles their own. We are incredibly excited to see what they achieve together this year!
Castlerigg
We are really looking forward to going on to Castlerigg on Monday, it is a perfect way to all come together and learn more about one another. Children are to arrive at school at the normal time of 8:45am. As discussed at induction evening, if your child is attending football before school, they can be dropped off at St Thomas’s and their suitcase dropped off at the school office. Please bring your child to drop them off, and at this point you can give us any medication that we will need for the children. School will be open as usual for those that use breakfast club in the morning. Children should come in their own clothes (not school uniform), ready for Castlerigg.
If your child does need medication (including travel sickness tablets) for the trip, then please make sure that this is clearly labelled with their name. We will have forms for you to fill out on the day.
We will be setting off at 11am, you are welcome to come back to school to wave us off.
We can assure you that this week, we will love and look after your children, whilst making sure that they have the best time and grow deeper in their faith! Every evening we will do our best to post on the blog about their day (sometimes the wifi is sketchy) and hopefully a photo or two of each group, which we will try our hardest to make sure every child is on the photographs, but please do not be worried if they are missed off.
On the Wednesday, our coach will be picking us up 1:00pm, so we aim to arrive back approximately 3:00pm. However, this is traffic dependent, so therefore, we will be in contact with school to give a more accurate time and then you will receive a text message, so you know when to come and collect them.
I know you have a kit list list which I am sure you have all studied, but just a couple of reminders of the vital items:
Sleeping bag or single duvet
No valuable or electrical items please (apart from a hairdryer if necessary)
Make sure all clothing items are labelled with names
No aerosols please as it sets of the fire alarm system
Packed lunch box filled with food and refillable bottle
Indoor and outdoor shoes
A book or a notebook to write in for quiet time
Bags will be carried by the children and have to be lifted up stairs by themselves up to their rooms, so please make sure you pack lightly.

Virtue Star
Our virtue is Loving and Compassionate this half term , and Lettie is a wonderful example of this. She has shown kindness, care and compassion both in our classroom and around school. In particular, Lettie has been a fantastic support to her Reception class partner, showing great kindness and patience and always being willing to help and encourage them. She is a thoughtful and caring member of ourclass, and we are very proud of her. Well done, Lettie!
Information & Reminders
PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. PE kits (school tracksuits) can be worn to school on those days. Please make sure that the children have shorts ifor indoor PE on a Tuesday.
Please ensure you have completed all consent forms and medical forms on the website. Any inhalers need to be updated, in date and sent in to school if you have not done so already.

The child have all been given the Supplementary form needed alongside their secondary school application today, please complete this and return back to school by Friday 2nd October, Mrs Gregan will then drop all the forms off together.
