Our new sounds this week are o, c, k and u. Please practise recognising these sounds using your sound cards, these will come home on Friday. Taking one sound a day: What items can you find that begin with this sound?

MATHS

“1 and another 1 and another 1 and another 1 makes 3!”

This week we have continued to see how numbers 1-4 are made up of 1s. Your maths challenge this week is a game we have been playing in Reception so your child will be able to tell you all about it! Firstly, you will need to collect 4 small items e.g. buttons, counters or scrunched up paper. Your child will cover their eyes as you put 1-4 of your small objects in front of them. Then say, “1, 2, 3… what can you see?” Encourage the children to then count the items using the sentence, “1 and 1 and 1 makes 3. I can see 3.” Play this a good few times supporting careful accurate counting making sure that your child understands that the final number counted is the total.

HANDWRITING

This week in Pen disco we have been drawing circles. Gather a range of writing equipment: felt tips, crayons, pencils in a variety of colours. Encourage your child to get their crocodile fingers to hold the pen correctly. In Pen disco we encourage the children to change their pen colour throughout the activity as this promotes lots of pencil grip practise - and the children love the colourful page they create.. a double win! Pop on one of your favourite songs and get drawing those circles remembering to change your pen as and when. Your page will look something like this:
