Year 1 Weekly Blog 2.10.26

A busy week in Year 1! We have been thinking deeply about our faith, putting our learning into practice and continuing to build our confidence across the curriculum. There have been some lovely conversations this week in year 1!

RE

This week, we have looked at the beauty of Creation and spent time thinking about how God did not make anything by mistake. We looked closely at different pictures of God's Creation and talked about what made them beautiful and special.

We then took our learning outside and made our own paintbrushes using natural materials. We used these to paint a rainbow, which we agreed is a gorgeous part of God's Creation. 🌈

We have also been looking more deeply at the Nicene Creed and the Our Father prayer, unpicking the words and thinking about what they are telling us and what they mean.

On Tuesday, we were very lucky to have Patience, Larisa and Steve as our worship leaders. They led a lovely worship for the class, and the children enjoyed joining in and listening to their message.

Our Wednesday Word this week was 'messenger'. We had a lovely conversation about what this word means and thought about who God's messengers are in the Bible and who might be God's messengers today.

Our Mission for this week has been thinking about how we can be God's messengers. We have been considering how our words, actions and the way we treat others can help us to share God's message.

Magic moments

English

We have been putting our learning into practice and writing sentences about the fruit we tried. The children have used the information and vocabulary we collected together to help them write their own sentences.

We have also started reading Supertato and have been thinking carefully about what might happen next in the story. There have been some very interesting predictions already!

Maths

In Maths, we have been continuing our learning about greater than and less than. We have been comparing different numbers and thinking carefully about which is bigger and which is smaller.

Wider learning

The children have also enjoyed PE, Science and Music this week, continuing to explore different subjects and develop new skills.

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

A little question to get your child talking about what we have been learning in school. See where the conversation takes you!

Maths: Can you give me a number that is greater than 6? Now can you give me a number that is less than 6?

HRSE: If you had a yucky feeling or something was worrying you, who could you talk to?

HRSE

In HRSE this week, we have been talking about what we can do if our parents or carers argue. We have focused on how it is never a child's fault when adults argue and who we can talk to if something makes us feel worried, upset or uncomfortable.

This is an important conversation, and we will continue to help the children understand who their trusted adults are and where they can go for support.

Please take a look at the letter attached to this week's blog for more information about what we have been learning and how you can continue these conversations at home.

Parents Day

Our Parents' Day appointments are now available to book. There will be appointments available throughout the day, giving us a chance to have a chat about how your child has settled into Year 1 and how they are getting on with their learning.

If you would prefer to have your appointment via Teams, please choose one of the slots highlighted in pink. These have been specifically blocked out for Teams appointments.

The appointments will be on a first come first serve basis so please email me with a rough rime for your preffered slot!

There will also be a Book Look at 9am on Thursday 22nd October, where you will have the opportunity to come in and have a look through your child's books before Parents' Day. 📚

LET’S CELEBRATE

Loving and Compassionate Star

Our Star Virtue this week was India.

India has been so loving and compassionate during her learning and outside the classroom and has shown a brilliant attitude towards her work. We have especially noticed that she is always so thoughtful towards anyone who may need a helping hand!

Well done India we are so proud of you!
