Year 1 Weekly Blog 28.3.24 ' He is not here; He has risen'

'He is not here; He has risen!’

Luke 24: 6-7

It has been a week of reflections, we have watched the events of Holy Week. After each assembly we have spent time discussing what we have seen and how it has made us feel. We have added to our Holy Week story each day, the children have shown a deep understanding of Jesus’ final moments and the love he showed.

Ask your child what where the main events of the Holy Week?

Can you explain to what happened? Or could you create your own Holy Week Story at home?

Thank you all so much for your kind donations in your Lenten boxes for CAFOD and well done for completing your different acts of kindness to raise the money.

What have we been learning this week……

We have kept up with our Phonics this week. Remember to keep reading and look on how to help your child at home, for games you can play, especially focusing on the alien words. Remind your child to Fred Talk if they are struggling. I have included the RWI QR codes on the homework page so you can watch the videos at home.

In Maths we have been getting better and better at counting in 2s keep this up at home. We have explored the effect of adding or subtracting 2 to or from even and odd numbers using our rekenreks to support us.

On Wednesday afternoon, I took the Year 1 and Reception children to look at the chicks from Year 2 we even got to stroke them! They were quite and calm so we didn’t scare the chicks, we loved getting to meet them with a favourite being Goldilocks.

We were inspired by the chicks and made Easter nests, the children love baking, I hope you enjoy eating them today :)

Today we had a lovely surprise we went on an Easter hunt to find chocolate eggs, they had our names on the box so we each had to find our own egg.

Tea Dance

Wow! We have worked incredibly hard this half term on our Gruffalo dance, even practicing in the classroom. They were brilliant, I am so proud of them all. They were very brave performing in front of a huge audience on a stage we hadn’t been on before. It was lovely to see lots of familiar faces in the audience thank you so much for your support. We will have another performance after Easter for anyone who couldn’t make it or if you would like to watch again, on Thursday 11th April at 2:45. Nursery and Reception will be joining us and younger siblings are welcome too. I know lots of them wanted to see it.

Let’s Celebrate:

Well done to our certificate awardees: These have been voted for by the class with a focus on reflection. Some of the comments were: he is always focused and listens, he tries really hard with his learning. She has good writing and is a good reader.

I also had to give an award to the whole class for our Tea Dance, we represented our school and have worked very hard. I didn’t need to give them any support they danced independently and knew where to stand on an unfamilar stage, which is very tricky when there are 30 children. Well done :)

This person is taking Henry home for settling in so well at school and for her brilliant dancing .

Well done to these children, they have recieved their Bronze reading award, I know there are lots that are very close, don’t forget to sign in their books

Please can you bring in healthy snacks please refer to the poster for suitable snack, we always have fruit avalible too.

  • Please can you bring/keep spare uniform in bags, as the weather has been wet recently, children have fallen over in puddles and it can sometimes be tricky finding spare uniform for them in the right size.
