Year 5 Weekly Blog 22.05.26- ‘Rest isn’t a reward for the work, it’s part of the work’

What an exhusting, warm and yet exciting week it has been to finish our penultimate half term of the year! The first half of the week has been different for the children, with Mr O’Shea taking charge of the classroom whilst I was on residential. He could not have been more complimentary of the children and the level of respect, kindness and attitude that they had shown him- you did me proud! The end of the week has been action packed too with us having our forest school takover day, which the children and staff loved! (some of us enjoyed this a little too much). On Friday, many of our Year 5 members represented our school in the annual swimming gala competition, an event that often carries a lot of pressure and excitement- the children did themselves and the school very proud.

Conversation starters

History- Which part of forest school did you find the most enjoyable? Which part did you find the most calming?

Let’s Celebrate

As if our end of half term tradition, the children have voted for their star and learner of the half term.

Year 5 February Half Term Homework- Due Monday 23rd February

Compulsory Homework

Lenten boxes

We soon will be starting our journey to the cross, preparing ourselves for a time of solemnity and self-reflection where we recognise our failings and resolve to live a more Godly life based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. During Lent, we are going to be focused on "almsgiving," which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity.

As in previous years we ask that each child to decorate a Lenten box which they can swap with a child from our partner class (Year 1). Then, during the Lenten period your child can perform acts of kindness, helpfulness and generosity for a donation into their box. We will then return them to school straight after half term and donate the money to Cafod.

Your lenten box can be made out of anything- egg cartons, milk bottles, food cans- lets get creative. Make sure your box is decorated, ready for your Year 1 partner to receive when we come back.
