Summer Home Learning

Phonics: We have made so much progress with our Phonics this year, to maintain this progress, I have made new QR codes videos for you to watch at home suitable for where your child is currently at.

Please try and watch some of these videos over the holidays, another thing we have been working on is our speedy reading (recognise and say the word quickly, without sounding out). We have been getting better and better at this in our RWI groups.

Oxford Owl has a game with all the speedy green words from each RWI group. Start on Red/Green, then work on Purple. This will ensure that when your child starts in Year 1 they have a good start to the year. I have attached some speed sound cards for these groups for you to print off at home. These are great for games.

Please click on the buttons below to access the quizes and word cards.

Here are some examples of activities you can do at home:

You could play a memory game printing off two of each word, reading the word and finding it’s pair.

Use a timer how many words can you read in a minute?

Put them around the house to find,

Make you own bingo with some of the words your child needs to practise.

Write them outside with chalk, make a word hop scotch.

Make your own game roll a dice what word do you land on?

Remember little and often is key and make it fun, it only needs to be 5-10 mins activities, start on a few words 4-5 and then build them up each day adding a new word to your game, once your child develops their confidence you can take cards they are very confident with and focus on new ones.

Write simple sentences, remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops encouraging your child to continue to be independent and use the sound mat to support them. I have sent letter formation books home so you can continue to practise the letter formations at home.

Give writing a purpose can they write a shopping list? A list for their holiday? labels for creations? captions, something they have loved doing today. Letters/cards/postcards to friends and families. It can be anything!

Once again keep it short and fun, they can conutine in their drawing club book or make their own, I know a few of you already do :)

I have sent these out today so you can have a look before we break up and have time to ask me any questions before we break up for our Summer holidays :)

As always Thank you for all of your support
