This week our Word of the Week was Corpus Christi, which means The Body of Christ.
We learned about the importance of this feast and how it celebrates Jesus being present with us in the Eucharist. In our Gospel reading from John, Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life.” We discussed what this means and how Jesus gives himself to us through the Eucharist. This helped us to understand why the Eucharist is such a special part of our faith. We linked this Gospel to our learning about the Last Supper and the Mass.
In RE this week, we learned about The Exodus. We read the story from the Bible and explored how God helped the Israelites escape from slavery in Egypt. We learned about Moses and how God chose him to lead the Israelites to freedom. After reading the story, we retold the events of the Exodus in our own words, thinking carefully about the important parts of the journey. We discussed how Moses showed great faith and courage by trusting God, even when things were difficult. This story helped us to understand the importance of trust, perseverance and believing in God's plan.
This week in English, we independently wrote our own Roman stories based on the modelled write we had written as a class. We worked hard to include exciting vocabulary, descriptive details and the features of a narrative in our writing. We have been ordering and comparing fractions using Cuisenaire rods in our maths lessons. The rods helped us to visualise the size of different fractions and develop our understanding of equivalent fractions and comparing their values. We began our new topic on light. We recapped our learning from Year 2 about light sources and reflectors, discussing which objects produce their own light and which reflect light from other sources. In Computing, we used Scratch to develop our coding skills. We wrote code to move sprites around the screen, learning how to use different programming blocks to create and control animations.
