'Keep shining, the world needs your light.'

Anon

This week in RE we have learnt about how Jesus fed the 5000.

We listened carefully as we heard how a large crowd of people followed Jesus because they wanted to learn from Him. Soon, everyone became very hungry. There didn’t seem to be enough food for all those people!

A young boy shared what he had, five small loaves of bread and two fish. It didn’t look like much at all. But Jesus thanked God for the food, shared it out, and something amazing happened. Everyone had enough to eat, and there was food left over!

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

Conversation starter:

What would you share if someone needed help?

What adventures have we been on this week?

This week we had a visitor, the cat from the Little Red Hen. She took the bread that the Little Red Hen had made. She felt bad, so we helped her write an apology letter to give to The Little Red Hen and made our own wanted posters. We have been on a material hunt around school, finding objects that are made from glass, plastic, metal and wood, can you do this at home what can you find? We even saw a fire engine which linked to our NELI topic people who help us, the firefighters came to speak to Year 6 so we went to look at the engine and speak to the firefighter.

Once again, keep practising blending at home lots of Fred talk sounding out words d o g then blending them together d ooooo ggg. Little and often is key as always if you have any questions please email. Can you write a sentence at home about the Little Red Hen characters e.g. the rat is big.

Tioday Reception and Nursery performed to each other, we created our own musical story, Nursery wrote their own story too.

Let’s Celebrate:

Important Information and Upcoming Events:

"A Special Heart”

You may be aware that we have a little girl who is part of our school family that has a very special heart. This heart is so big and full of so much love that she gives out and receives from us all - we love her dearly. But, in order for this special heart to continue to flourish, Annie (Cora's sister from our Reception class) will be going into hospital in Alder Hey to have an operation to make her heart even more special than it was before. To help her heart to become a little bit stronger. This is a really big operation for such a little girl to have and as a result of this, Cora will be absent from school for a little bit over the next few weeks, as she spends time close to her sister and family, and Annie for much longer as she recovers in hospital and then continues at home; building up her strength to join us in school again when she is able. The wonderful thing about our school is that no matter where any of us are, we are all connected and we will always look after each other and do everything that we can to help.

I thought that whilst the girls are away from school we could send them care packages each week, from our school family, to let them know that we miss them and we are thinking about them each and every day - something to make them smile. We don't want Annie to feel forgotten or that she is missing out. She has some wonderful friendships in her class and these are very important to Annie's recovery - they are central to it. The staff and families in both Reception and Year 2 are welcomed to contribute to this. From Monday, there will be a big box outside Mrs Gregan's office with Annie's name on, where we can collect things that the girls might like to do or have; sticker books, colouring books, pens and pencils etc, that we can then make up lots of care packages to send to the family, and to our beautiful girls. If you would like to donate an item, then send it into school with your child or drop it off at the office and we will box things up. You all know Cora and Annie really well and what they like - I am sure you will have better ideas than me. We will be sending letters and cards from the children too, and as Annie starts feeling a little bit better, maybe the odd video message here and there.

The final thing to do is to keep Annie and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Prayers are incredibly powerful, especially when we all pray for the same thing. I know you all will and I also know you will support the family as best as you can; as you always do. We have seen as a school community before just what a force of power our families are when we supported Dominic a couple of years ago as he battled his way through treatment for his brain tumour - he is now thriving.

We can't wait for Annie and her special heart to come back to us in school; but for now, let's do what we can to bring her that little bit extra joy whilst she is being looked after.

With huge thanks and gratitude

Mrs Gregan

Lenten boxes

We will soon begin our journey to the cross, preparing ourselves for a time of solemnity and self-reflection, during which we recognise our failings and resolve to live a more godly life, grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ. During Lent, we will focus on "almsgiving," which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity.

As in previous years, we ask that each child decorate a Lenten box which they can swap with a child from our partner class (Yr 6). Then, during the Lenten period, your child can perform acts of kindness, helpfulness and generosity for a donation into their box. We will then return them to school and donate the money to Cafod.

It is important that each child decorates and brings in a Lenten box to ensure that every child in year three receives one. Thank you as always for your support. We will meet with Year 6 next week to share our likes and interests to help us when making our boxes during half term.

Parents Day:

Thank you, everyone has booked an appointment. If you are having a virtual appointment, you should have received an email from me for your team meeting appointment. If not, please let me know.

Vision Screening: On Thursday 12th February it is our vision screening a letter to explain went home on Monday, you only need to return the letter if you DO NOT want your child to have their vision screening.

World Book Day:

2026 is the National Year of Reading with every child knowing their reading identity- what is it that makes them excited about reading?

On Thursday 5th March For World Book Day your child can come to school dressed as their reader identity. Your favourite book/magazine character/person…you choose your reading super power!!

Mrs Tierney has set up a forest school instagram account click on the button to follow the page.

Please send your child in with labelled warm coats, gloves and hats as we try to be outside as much as possible.

Reception Plea:

Please can you bring in any old socks, shoes and return any you have borrowed from school we don’t have any left so we are struggling if anyone has an accident or gets wet feet from being outside in the rain.

If you have any old baking trays, toasters, kettles, kitchen utensils we would love them for our mud kitchen. Thank you we are grateful for anything you can donate.

  • PE
Our PE days are Wednesday (outside) and Friday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.
