'Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star'

W. Clement Stone

We started our week with a beautiful shared prayer and liturgy alongside Year 6 — a truly lovely way to start a Monday morning! The children also completed their Lenten box forms (these can be found in your child’s reading folder), sharing their likes and interests to help inspire their Year 6 buddy when it’s time to create their special Lenten box.

During our RE learning, we blessed and ate our bread just as Jesus did with the 5,000 followers — and the children all agreed it was delicious! We also spent time thinking about how we can follow in Jesus’ footsteps and recognising the moments we’ve seen one another doing just that in our classroom.

Our prayer and liturgy leaders guided us beautifully through a reflection on the message, “Love one another as I have loved you.” It was wonderful to hear the children share their ideas about how they will show love and kindness to others throughout the week.

Conversation starter:

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

What is something you have worked hard on this half term?

What adventures have we been on this week?

This week we made bread and wrote instructions of how to make it. We saved some bread for the cat to give to the Little Red Hen to say sorry for eating the bread she made. Our writing is getting better each week and some of us are writing our sentences independently! We enjoyed our enrichment, we have been practicing the days of the week and sequencing our day. I am looking forward to sharing your child’s achievements so far this year in reception tomorrow.

Homework Books: The homework books have gone home, please can you decorate them at home and on the first page write about your half term holiday or write a sentence about anything, they have loved writing about the Little Red Hen. Keep it simple pick one thing and encourage your child to sound out the words, and write what they hear. Some words will not be spelt correctly as your child is using sounds they know for example cook will be spelt cuk or cuc this is what we want them to do. Once they learn the alternative sounds they can apply that to their work. If they ask you how to spell difficult words you can tell them but always encourage them to try it first. they can either write a sentence or label their pictures.

I have also set your child a challenge, please watch the video below:

We have bought lots of brand new reading books, they are very expensive so please can you look after them and bring in book bags or bigger bags so the reading folders aren’t folded.

Let’s Celebrate:

Henry the Dog: You have made so much progress and worked hard on your writing this week well done :)
