Reception Weekly Blog 12.6.26 - “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Psalm 118:24

Welcome back to our final term in Reception! We hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed some special family time together.

In our teacher-led liturgy this week, the children learned about Corpus Christi, which means the Body of Christ. We listened to a Gospel where Jesus told us, “I am the Bread of Life.” We talked about how, just like bread helps our bodies grow strong, Jesus fills our hearts with love and helps us grow in kindness and friendship. The children reflected on how Jesus is always with us, and we are trying to stay close to Him by being caring, helpful, and prayerful each day. We’ve also enjoyed singing a new hymn - “One Bread, One Body”.

Conversation starter:

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

If you were an important person from history, what special thing would you like people to remember about you?

What adventures have we been on this week?

This week, we also launched our exciting new topic: “Up, Up, Up and Away!” The children loved sharing their half term adventures and talking about where they had travelled. In English, we enjoyed the story Emma Jane’s Aeroplane, which inspired some fantastic writing about places we would like to visit if we had our own plane!

We also learned about a significant person from the past, Amelia Earhart - who even made a surprise visit to our classroom! Ask your child what they can remember about her amazing achievements. Our classroom has certainly been full of aeroplane excitement, from junk modelling creations to a paper aeroplane flying competition outdoors - what fun!

In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction, using lots of new vocabulary to describe where things are. The children have enjoyed building scenes for their friends to replicate. We have also explored doubles using dominoes to support our number learning.

Although Sports Day was postponed, we have continued practising outside and have seen wonderful teamwork and determination - Mr Nay was especially impressed with the children’s focus during the egg and spoon obstacle course!

On Monday, the children enjoyed an enrichment session with Mrs Hotchkiss from Year 2, where they went on an exciting bug hunt. The children listened beautifully and showed great enthusiasm - well done, Reception!

We also have some new friends in class with us! Our Year 6 helpers helped the children to create a cosy corner for the little wrigglers. We’ve revisited our caterpillar life cycle learning from before the holidays to predict what’s going to happen!

It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are so proud of how the children have returned, ready to learn and explore together.

Let’s Celebrate:

Co-operative Roger Robin certificate - Jax, what a fantastic start you have made to the final half term in Reception! You have been so co-operative in the classroom, and it has been lovely to hear you speaking so kindly and calmly to your friends. You have also tried really hard to listen carefully on the carpet - keep up the brilliant effort, we are so proud of you!

Whole School Virtues - Curious & Active: Niccolo, you have been really curious in the areas of the classroom and active, playing with your friends!

Henry the Dog: Nicolas, you have been a real active learner in our classroom this week. You have shown so much focus and enthusiasm in your writing and have asked some wonderful questions on the carpet.

Important Information and Upcoming Events:

Earlier this week, I shared with the children that Miss Goldstone and I will continue teaching them until the end of the year. We are really looking forward to spending these final, exciting weeks together.

Please read the attached letter from Mrs Gregan for more information.

Class trip -
As you will have seen on the note sent home with the library registration forms, on Tuesday 23rd June we are heading out on a walk around St. Annes. We’ll be walking to the local train station where we’ll hopefully get a glimpse of a train arriving and departing. We’ll then spot other modes of transport whilst we make our way towards the beach front. There, we’ll ride the miniature railway and enjoy an ice cream on the beach. On our way back to school, we’ll be calling into the library to enjoy a story together and hopefully collect our new library cards. Please return completed forms to school as soon as possible - I’ll be taking them into the library on Wednesday 17th June. The cost of the trip is £5, to be paid via ParentPay.

Forest School
- For the final half term, Reception will be accessing Forest School learning weekly every Friday morning. Please can they come to school dressed in their old clothes (long sleeves and trousers) and shoes ready for more exploring. Feel free to bring wellies in a carrier bag and waterproof coats depending on the weather. We’re going to get changed back into our school uniform afterwards (PE kits are fine), so please ensure that your child has their uniform with them. Thank you!

Reception sports day is now Monday 6th July - starting at 9:15am.

Gym Jam Jog - Wednesday 24th June @ 8am. Keep collecting those sponsors!
