“Use whatever gift you have received to serve others.”
1 Peter 4:10
This week in RE, we have been learning about the lives of St Peter and St Paul. We heard how they were ordinary people who chose to follow Jesus, even when it felt a little bit difficult or uncertain. We talked about how they trusted Jesus and kept going, showing bravery and faith. The children reflected on how, just like Peter and Paul, we can try our best, even when we make mistakes, knowing that we are loved and cared for.
Our Child-Led Liturgy was led beautifully, with the children showing such thoughtfulness and reverence. We spent time learning about the Sacred Heart of Jesus and thinking about the many ways Jesus shows love and care for us. The children shared their own ideas about times when they have felt that loving care in their lives.
We ended the week with our Teacher-Led Liturgy, focusing on prayer and gratitude, especially thinking about the special fathers and grandfathers in our families. The children spoke so warmly about the people who look after them, and we took time to say thank you for the love and kindness they give each day.
Conversation starter:
Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
Where is your favourite place to visit and why?
What adventures have we been on this week?
In the wider curriculum, the children have also been busy exploring lots of exciting learning. In English and Understanding of the World, we have been on wonderful adventures with Paddington, travelling to London and even to France! The children have learnt about some of the famous landmarks Paddington might have seen on his journeys and have enjoyed learning a few simple French words along the way. They also showed great creativity when designing sandwiches for Paddington, filling them with all sorts of delicious and imaginative ingredients!
In Maths, we have continued to develop our understanding of directions and positional language. The children have loved creating their own maps and giving clear instructions to one another to follow routes. We have also found time to revisit number bonds to 10.
During our My Happy Mind session, we talked about what it means to ‘dream big’ and set goals for the future. It was so special to hear the children sharing their hopes and aspirations, particularly as they begin to prepare for their transition into Year 1.
On that note, we were delighted to welcome Miss Edwards on Tuesday afternoon. The children really enjoyed meeting her, and she is very much looking forward to spending more time getting to know the class in the coming weeks. The children will be joining Miss Edwards again on 2nd July for transition morning, and there is already lots of excitement about exploring the Year 1 classroom!
Let’s Celebrate:
Don’t Give Up Sadie Spider - Niko - you have become such a fantastic ‘Don’t Give Up, Sadie Spider’, and we are so proud of you! You are listening very carefully to feedback from adults, which is helping your brain to grow more and more. You are also working really hard to maintain your focus on the carpet and continue to be a positive role model for others.
Whole School Virtues - Curious & Active: Annie - it has been wonderful having you back in class with us every day. You have thrown yourself into your learning like you’ve never been away! You have been so busy in our learning landscape, having a go at all the challenges and asking for help when you’ve needed it. Well done!
Henry the Dog: Rosalie, what a fantastic week of learning you have had! We hope you enjoy your time with Henry!
Important Information and Upcoming Events:
Class trip - Tuesday 23rd June we are heading out on a walk around St. Annes. We’ll be walking to the local train station where we’ll hopefully get a glimpse of a train arriving and departing. We’ll then spot other modes of transport whilst we make our way towards the beach front. There, we’ll ride the miniature railway and enjoy an ice cream on the beach. On our way back to school, we’ll be calling into the library to enjoy a story together and hopefully collect our new library cards. The cost of the trip is £5, to be paid via ParentPay.
Children to come to school in full uniform at normal time. Please ensure that your child has clothing for all weathers (it’s so unpredictable at the moment) - raincoats and sunhats. Sun cream to be applied before the children come to school. We will be back in school for lunch as normal.
Forest School - For the final half term, Reception will be accessing Forest School learning weekly every Friday. Please can they come to school dressed in their old clothes (long sleeves and trousers) and shoes ready for more exploring. Feel free to bring wellies in a carrier bag and waterproof coats depending on the weather. We’re going to get changed back into our school uniform afterwards (PE kits are fine), so please ensure that your child has their uniform with them. Thank you!
Reception sports day is now Monday 6th July - starting at 9:15am.
Gym Jam Jog - Wednesday 24th June @ 8am. Children come to school in their pyjamas for the day and run around the field as many times as they can before school starts at 8:45am. It’s always a lovely community event, with many of the parents joining in for a couple of laps around the field too! Children can bring a small teddy to school with them. Sponsor forms to be brought into school on this day too.
Crazy Hair Day - As you may be aware, every class works towards completing our school’s Star Charter as a way of giving back to our community. One of the challenges within the Star Charter is to raise money for a charity that is close to our hearts. This year, Alder Hey has provided wonderful care and support to Annie and the family during a very important time, and we would like to give something back in recognition of this. Therefore, on Tuesday 30th June, we will be holding a Crazy Hair Day in Reception to raise money for Alder Hey. Children should come to school in normal uniform, but anything goes when it comes to their hair - glitter, hairspray, tinsel… the more creative, the better! We kindly ask for a donation of £2 to take part, which will go towards supporting this truly wonderful charity!
In light of this, here’s a little message from Annie and her family:
Now Annie is back at school with all of her friends, we just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your support and kindness whilst Annie has been in Alder Hey and recovering at home after her heart operation. The last few months have been some of the most challenging for us as a family but knowing we have such a lovely school community around us has made a massive difference. Thank you also for the care packages and cards - they made us smile on some of the most difficult days and the girls loved receiving them each week.
Annie and family x

PE - Our PE days are Wednesday (outside) and Friday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.
