Year 3 Weekly Blog 2nd May

Worship

Sasha, Isla, Ruth, Heidi and Halle led our worship this week, we listened to John 21 and heard how Jesus prepared a fire on the shore ready to have breakfast with his disciples who had been fishing. Jesus asked Peter 3 three times if he loved him and each time he replied that he did. Jesus asked Peter to ‘Look after my sheep’ and told Peter that one day he would die because of his faith but until then he should follow him. The girls led us in prayers for Pope Francis and his successor.
Thank you for leading our class worship, yo will be our prayer leaders this week.

Thursday was the 1st of May, May is the month of Mary. Every Thursday in May we will be praying a decade of the Rosary, if your child has Rosary beads at home that they would like to use, they are welcome to bring them into school.

Our learning this week…

English We ae continuing to learn about Boudica and how her inspirational speech motivated the Iceni and surrounding tribes to attack the Roman army. We have finished our class novel and are looking forward to reading I was there…Boudicca’s Army by Hilary McKay.
Our Author of the month for May is Holly Webb, I’ve already spotted some children enjoying her books.

Maths - This week we have focused on efficient strategies for subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers.

Spelling - The weeks spellings are homophones - please see or homework blog.

Music - Jazz We listened to a piece of traditional Jazz music called Heyday, it was very different form the Ragtime Jaz we listened to last week. We also learnt a technique called call and response - its a technique we use lots in class, but now the children can put a name to it. The children practised the call and response technique on the xylophones to the song When the saints go marching in.

History - We have had a go at writing our own inspirational speeches in the character of Boudicca!

PE - We have been practising our shot and discus throws, both of which have very different techniques. We continued our team game unit and the children tried to solve a problem with chickens, foxes and corn! I wonder if they could share the problem and explain how they solved it in their team.

Conversation starter…

Why was Boudicca a good leader?

We have listened to Boudicca’s speech and thought about how she inspired others to follow her lead, but what was it that made her a good leader?

Are you part of a group or club with a leader? What qualities do they have that makes them a good leader?

Certificates

Barnaby - You have been a magical mathematician this week! You have really focused in lessons and shown great understanding in class discussions and your independent work. Keep it up Barnaby !
