We’ve had a really busy jam packed first week back, the children have come back to school raring to go after their half term break.
Worship Our class worship was led this week by Scarlet, Freddie, Henry S, Eliza and Jack . They read Acts 6-7 and we heard how more and more people were becoming followers of Jesus. Close follwers of Jesus became known as Apostles, they placed their hands on the heads of people and prayed for God’s Spirit to guide them, they were known as Deacons. One of the Deacons, Stephen, explained how everything that God had promised was happening at last. This angered some people, they seized Stephen and put him on trial. During his trial he remined his accusers that the true King had appeared amongst them and they had refused to listen and they crucified him, he meant Jesus. Stephen too, was put to death and as he died he said ‘Lord, Don’t hold this sin against them'.’
We watched the Mark 10 Mission, we learned God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are the Holy Trinity. We celebrated the Holy Trinity and discovered more about them together. Greg helped us to know and love the Trinity more. We met them in our hearts as we prayed and then sang Sign Your Cross with Sr Chiara.
Sponsored Swim
The highlight of the week has to be our sponsored swim on Thursday. We are so proud of the children’s effort and determination to raise as much money as they can for their chosen charity - The Neonatal Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Thank you for all your sponsorship, if you haven’t already, please send sponsorship money in by next Friday 20th June.
Our learning this week…
English The children are really excited to start out new unit of work - The Spider and The fly! I have challenged the children to collect some spider facts over the weekend to kick off our learning wall.
Maths - After doing a super job with column addition before half term, this week we moved onto column subtraction.
Spelling - The weeks spellings are contracted words - doesn’t, isn’t, aren’t, wasn’t, weren’t, let’s, should’ve, you’ve, they’ve and haven’t
Science -We continued looking at forces and learnt about noncontact forces - gravity and magnetism. We listen to the story of a shepherd who accidently discover lodestone, a natural magnet whilst gathering his sheep in a field. I wonder if your children can retell you the story .
PE - We have been practising ready for our Year 3/4 Sports afternoon next Monday 16th June.
Conversation starter…
Admiration…who do you admire?
What is it that you admire about them?
Is I particular qualities they have or something that they are part of that you admire?
Do you remember being in year 2 and look up at the Year 3 children, in assembly on the playgroud? Did you admire them? Were you excited to be going into year 3?
The year 2 children are doing that now, they are looking at you and seeing what wonderful things Year 3 children are doing. Let’s keep setting a fantastic example and showing the younger children how we work and behave in year 3.
