Worship
Our prayer leaders this week were George, Rhys, Emilia, Alfie and Aubree, thank you for leading our class in prayer so beautifully. Our word of the week has been ‘cross’.
On Monday it was Our Lady’s birthday, we attend mass as a whole school to celebrate and to also mark the start of our new school year. The children were impeccably behaved and we were really impressed with how sensibly they walked down to church. Thank you to those of you who were able to walk with us.
Our learning this week…
English
This week we have looked at the Paddington text more closely and looked for evidence in the text to find answers to questions.
Maths
We’ve continued to look at strategies for adding three numbers together. We were able to spot really quickly when groups of number that had pairs that added to ten. We revisited some of our year 2 maths vocab including commutative, which means that numbers can be added in any order and the sum will still be the same.
RE
’So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.’ Genesis 1:27
We have thought about how we are like God, we know that God is creative, forgiving, loving, creates peace and freedom, cares for people and the world, but how do we do that? How do show we are the image of God or reflect him?
Kidsafe
On Tuesday Miss Woodend delivered our first Kidsafe session, the children discussed how they keep themselves safe and the meaning of trust. Children were helped to become more aware of their feelings so that if they are sad, scared or worried they will have the vocabulary to voice those feelings. We called these sad, scared or worried feelings ‘yukky feelings.’ Each week I will post a Kidsafe Parents info letter to keep help keep you informed.
Swimming
I can’t begin to tell you how proud we are of your children, they were superstars and well done to parents too - getting your children to school slightly earlier than usual. I explained to the children that in the first session there would be a lot of waiting around and lots of information to make sure that they were safe by the pool. They took it in their stride and were wonderful. The children have now been assessed by our swimming teachers, Gary and Graham. Next week the children will get a full hours swimming lesson in the pool. We could tell you have been practising getting dried and dressed at home, I think they are the fastest changers we’ve had! Well done everyone, you smashed it!
Conversation starter…
In class we watched a beautiful story about little wooden people and their maker. Share this video with your family……I wonder who this makes you think of? You are Special
Year 3 Induction Evening
It was lovely to meet so many of you on Wednesday evening. I gave out lots of information about the coming year, you can find a copy the presentation from the evening here. Thank you to those of you who have said you would be willing to accompany the class on upcoming trips, I will keep your emails handy.
On Thursday I spoke to the children about the charities you put forward for us to support as a class. The children have voted and this year we will be supporting The British Heart Foundation.
