Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 10th October - And He said to him, "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

The weeks are flying by so quickly and it’s hard to believe that we’ve only got a couple more weeks left of the first half term. Our word of the week has been ‘Gratitude’ and my goodness I have so much to be grateful for this week - your children are amazing. From the minute they have come into year 3 they have grabbed all opportunities with both hands and worked their little socks off. So I am grateful to them and to you as their parents for supporting them and encouraging them to be the best versions of themselves.
During prayer and worship we have spent many moments in quiet personal prayer, just taking time to think about what we are grateful for. When I have asked the children to share their thought they are so learned and wise - the answers they give are answers you wouldn’t be surprised to hear from much older children. They have really thought deeply and made beautiful connections with God and the gifts he has given them.

Our learning this week…

English
Our new class novel is Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree. We’re only a few chapters in and already the children are hooked. We cannot wait to hear about all the funny little people Curious Connie will meet on her way up the tree.
We have started our next unit of work - The Green Children. We have looked carefully at some unusual picture from text and spoke about what we can see, then added more information eg. I can see a little girl. I can see a little girl holding a teddy, looking up at an old building. We orally practised lots of sentences before recording some of our own in our books.

Maths
This week we have been looking at compliments to 100 and strategies for checking if numbers add to 100. We know that if we partition 2 digit numbers - if the ones add to 10 and the tens add to 90 they are compliments to 100. The children were quick to spot when they weren’t too.
We’ve also practised recording length and height in centimeters and millimeters.

RE
We have been looking at ecological virtue and what it means to be a steward of our common home. The children wee able to think of many ways they could be good stwards of earth, others and how they can nurture their relationship with God. We know its not always easy to do the right thing and make the best choices, we were able to identify choices that were unwise too.

Swimming

Our swimming stars this week (As chosen by the swimmers teachers) are: Frank and Oscar.
Great work this week boys, you both work really hard in our swimming lesson and never give up.

Harvest
The Mini Vinnie’s have asked year 3 to collect jam for the Food bank - any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Conversation starter…

In assembly today Mrs Gregan spoke about saying thank you and being grateful.

I wonder how many people you say thank you to in a day? Do you thank God when you say your prayers?

I wonder if as a family you can think of something you are thankful for each day and include it in your prayers.
