Travelling nativity
Thank you to those families who have kept our travelling nativity moving this week, I hope you have enjoying sharing the story in your homes.
Our learning this week…
English
In English, we used a story map to retell the tale of The Green Child. The children enjoyed acting out the key events and exploring the characters. Next week, we will be adapting the story with our own imaginative twists, ready to write our own versions.
Maths
This week in Maths, we deepened our understanding of three-digit numbers. We practised representing and ordering numbers up to 1,000 and discussed the importance of place value when comparing them. We also worked on placing numbers on unmarked number lines, using our reasoning skills to estimate carefully and explain our thinking.
RE
In RE, we learned about the parts of the Mass and the special responses said by the congregation. The class took part in a fun roleplay where some children acted as the priest and others as the congregation, helping them understand the structure of the Mass more deeply.
Swimming
Our swimming stars this week (As chosen by the swimmers teachers) are: Theo and Oscar.
Science
In Science, we continued our topic on the human body, focusing on the skeleton. We named key bones, discussed their functions—support, protection, and movement—and looked at how different bones work together.
French
In French, we practised describing shapes using colour and size. The children enjoyed combining vocabulary to make full descriptive sentences
Computing
Our Computing question this week was “Do pictures move?” We explored how simple animations are made by creating our own flip books. The children were fascinated to see how a sequence of images can create the illusion of movement.
Woodmatters - Stone Age Trip
We had an amazing Stone Age day at Woodmaters in Windermere! The children explored real artifacts, placing them on a human timeline to understand how long ago the Stone Age was. They made axes from slate and sticks, took part in a hunter-gatherer scavenger hunt, and used natural materials to paint just like early humans. A highlight of the day was learning how to start fires using flint and cotton seeds—a brilliant hands-on experience that brought history to life.
Parish Coffee Morning
Year 3 had a lovely time at the parish coffee morning. We worked with parishioners to make Christmas paper chains and shared the Advent prayer cards we had created in class. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with the parish community and spread a little Advent joy.
