DRAFT Year 4 Weekly Blog Friday 1st May. "Those who trust in God can do all things." St Alphonsus Liguori

May 1, 2026 angela lyons

Another delightful week in Year 4! This week, Isla, Marla and Patrick led a beautiful worship about Peter putting things right with Jesus, after he had denied Him 3 times. This was also what our first RE lesson of the week was based on. Children used this to inspire them to write prayers asking for faith as strong as St Peter. They recognised Jesus will be beside them ready to forgive and it is comforting to recognise that even the greatest disciple made mistakes.

In other news this week, Miss Edwards helped children understand that History can be biased, depending on who has written it. They looked at an account from the same year about the Vikings - one written by the Anglo-Saxons and one by the Vikings themselves. Of course, they were vastly different. In PE, children polished their dance from last week (see below!)

Maths has seen us dive further into fractions and also cover translation of shapes. Children are loving their English lessons based on our novel - they have been showing their great reading skills and writing character descriptions.

Let’s Celebrate

Our certificate this week is a reflective and determined learner This goes to Henry O. We have loved watching your determination with your TTrockstars each morning when you come in. You are so much more attentive in class and you are striving to imprve your handwriting and punctuation. Keep it up!

Our virtues this half term are being attentive and discerning. We have chosen Bonnie as our star because she is always so attentive to the needs of others. She is discerning in her choices - trying hard to follow Jesus and be kind in all her actions.

PE stars this week:

Heidi for super creative moves and Dexter for adapting your dance so that you could do it without a partner.

Holy Communion

The final Holy Communion session for children is next week - Tuesday 5th May. This is an imprtant session where they will be learning how to receive the host.

Saturday 9th May Group 1 Saturday 16th May Group 2

Please can children be dropped off at the side door - presbytery at 9:15am. This allows them to get settled and prepared before mass. You can then go and find your allocated pews in church. They will be labelled with your family name.

Holy Communion Form - Seating

I am still waiting on 6 people to fill in the form below so I can allocate seats. This is to a maximum of 12 people - however if there are more, they can be seated at the back of church.

Upcoming trips and events:

Wednesday 20th May Year 4 Streetlife Charity beach Walk.

As a class, we have talked lots about people in our society who are marginalised. Children have decided they want to collect for Streetlife - a charity for the homeless. On this day, we would like children to fill their school bags with items for Streetlife’s foodbank (eg pasta, socks, pot noodles and other light items) with the aim of carrying these to the beach- so they can see what it feels like to carry your belongings on your back! As streetlife’s colour is PURPLE, we would love it if children could wear something purple on this day - so they can wear comfortable clothes with maybe a purple top, purple cap or even a purple hair bobble.

Once on the beach, we have lots of plans to do things that link to homes and homeless - such as building a group sandcastle creation, painting pebbles and making beach collages. I am sure we will have an ice-cream too! There is no cost to this trip - other than £2 on the day for an ice-cream.

Wednesday 17th June Sport’s Day Year 3 and 4 9:15am

Friday 19th June Anglo-Saxon and Viking dress up day.

This takes place in school and children will be doing lots of things to consolidate their understanding of these two important invaders to our shores. It is always such a fun day! They will need to come to school dressed as either an Anglo-Saxon person, a Viking person, or a Viking god/ goddess, elf, giant or creature! We are giving you lots of time to plan a costume - please don’t feel you need to buy one. Here are some examples of made costumes below.

Costume ideas

We have 2 very exciting trips in July. Although this is a way off, we thought we would give you lots of preparation time and so have popped them on parent pay early. These are:

Thursday 2nd July UCLAN Electricity in Science trip

This trip consolidates our learning in Science. The cost of the trip is £20 payable on parentpay from today

Thursday 9th July Cuerden Valley Park Rivers Trip

This is linked to our Geography unit about Rivers and is a brilliant trip to discover the features of a River. This is £25 payable on parentpay from today.

Friday 3rd July St Bedes Prayer Day.

We are going to St Bedes for a day of prayer. This is a lovely chance for children to encounter their potential high school for the first time, whilst celebrating Jesus’s love.

Please let me know if there are any issues or questions.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Lyons, Miss Edwards and Mrs Carragher
