This weeks focus is homophones. In order to practice these, children will have to hear the word in context to differentiate it from the homophone pair.
The children are to complete the grammar sheet in their books which is about using commas to separate clauses. They are then to write 5 of their own sentences which have to include;
a main clause and subordinate clause.

A worksheet about fronted adverbials has been stuck in their homework books. The children are to re-write the sentences so that the adverbial is at the start of the sentence. The first sentence has already been done by the children.

Will be on Charanga. The children are to go onto rhythm gird and create a rhythm similar to what we practiced on Monday. Go to settings and select 4:4 and do this by using notes E and D only.

Children are to select their own greek myth (cartoon only). This is to be found on YouTube and they need to find the 4 main points of the story for each page of their book. This can be done as a drawn sketch with annotations or just written out.

Our leadership assemblies will take place next week, where our roles of responsibility are announced. For anyone who would like to be a class councilor this year and also be apart of the school council, then you are to prepare a speech to tell your classmates why they should vote for you. One boy and one girl will be selected as our class councilors. You can not apply for class councilor if you have already been one in a previous year.
As it is the first week homework handout of the year, the children are to design the front cover of their homework books. You can choose to back these books as it helps protect the condition of them. This is so we do not get these books mixed with our computing books (same size and colour).
The children are to write 5 curious questions in their homework book that they would like to find out about the Houses of Parliament or anything else to do with London and their task is to find the answer when we go on Tuesday.
The children have been split into 2 groups and they will have to prepare arguments to put forward for their debate. Children are to come up with reasons for their argument and use research to help support their team. The question is ‘Should homework be banned?’ The groups for this are;

The date for our music concert has been set which is Monday 10th July. All of the songs have been posted on Charanga under ‘Music Concert 2023’. Children are to practice singing these songs and also playing them on the clarinet.
These are the songs that we will be singing for the end of year play in Year 6’s performance of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The children have all been given a copy of the lyrics for each song as these have been adjusted slightly to fit the theme of our play.
DISCLAIMER- The songs that we are singing will be slightly slower than the original versions of these songs so I would recommend slowing the audio down on the video.

Value labels from Spaghetti Bolognaise jars, packs and ready meals.

You can search on line for examples.

To research the capital cities of the 23 countries of North America. These are to be included in the style of a poster, similar to last weeks geography homework.
Children to focus on getting through their book and ready to quiz on Monday when they’re back in school.
We are beginning our next geography topic next week, all about North America. Children are to create a research poster about North America with them putting their own design on their poster. This is for the children to build up some prior knowledge before coming into the lesson. Things to include in their poster;
Countries within North America
Location in the world e.g. hemispheres, oceans etc
Climate and weather
Will be on IXL. As the children have had a full week of area and scaling. It is important to keep topping up with their fractions understanding as we pick this up again next week.

The sheet used for this writing has been stuck in their homework folders.
There will be no formal homework over half term but it is important for the children to keep practicing their TT rockstars to keep up with their multiplication skills. Mr Cornwell is getting tired of all the children beating him on TTRS so he will also be practicing over the half term.
All the children have their end of year reading targets in their homework books so it is important for the children to continue with their reading over the half term and to try and reach their target.
Rehearsing assembly scripts- PRIORITY
Due to our visit of OFSTED this week, this meant that we lost 2 valuable assembly practice slots in the hall. Therefore, the main focus for homework this week is to practice our lines for the assembly. All children have been given a full copy of the entire script.
Egg Decorating Competition- Deadline Wednesday 5th April
A whole school competition to decorate a boiled egg in whatever fashion of your choosing. It will cost £1 to enter the competition, with the funds going to charity. There will be prizes for the best egg.
Spellings
Our focus this week were words ending in -cial or -tial but they sound like shul. All of these words are words containing this pattern.
We were focusing on tricky words again this week. This time with a focus on words including letters that are not silent but are quiet, meaning you can’t hear them but they can often be misspelt. The first 6 words are our new words for the week, with the other 6 words being other tricky words that we have done previously.

Assembly practice
All children have been given their roles for the assembly so the priority is for children to rehearse their lines and to make a note of when they are speaking.
Our spelling focus this week has been words ending in -tious. The first 7 spellings are words we have learned this week and the other 5 are tricky words that we have previously done this year.
A weekly SPAG sheet which has already been stuck in the children’s books.
Will be on IXL. The children have finished angles with Mrs Hotchkiss and have moved onto their new topic of negative numbers. Children are to complete these angle tasks as a part of their retrieval.

Reminder for children to finish their solar system fact fans. Details about this are on last weeks blog. Please take a picture of your child with their completed fact fans and then email this picture to me or print it out and bring it into school. This picture can then be put into their science books as evidence.
