What a great week of learning we have had in Year 2! I have been so impressed by your Purple Mash skills this week and how confident you are becoming at handing in your work. I know that many of you have had to be ‘Don’t Give Up’ Sadie Spiders when technology might not have worked just quite how we would have liked, but you have all stuck with it and had a go! I can’t wait until we are back in school all together when we can use our new computer skills to showcase our super learning.

We are so proud of all of the work that is going on in class and at home. We recognise that it is not easy and that the children are missing each other, but like true Sadie Spiders the children keep on trying and trying and trying and they are doing some great work. Well done children and thank you parents for all the support that you are giving whilst trying to do everything else as well.
Sadly, we have had to close our class bubble, as we have had a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the children who are coming into school. Hopefully everyone will be okay and we are sure that you will join us all in hoping that everyone is safe and keeping everyone in our prayers.
Our novel the Iron Man is really beginning to get very exciting and the children have had some very creative ideas about what might happen. I am loving reading what they have written. We continue to be really impressed with the children’s ability to add and subtract involving exchanges. We are coming to the end of this topic and next week we will be starting our topic of multiplication and division. Geography is proving to be very exciting, looking at maps and learning all about the local area. In RE the children have continued to think about the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Purple Mash is working well and the children are really engaging. Well done children. (Just one little blip—we need to add a 2Do for you to put photos on —we have realised that we have missed some of the work that children have sent to us because it is going into the children’s files and not into our alerts. Whoops—sorry. Our fault not yours. 2dos will be set when needed to return your work to us, so keep your eyes peeled for 2dos. If your child is at school on that date they will have completed it in class.
Please continue to send photos via email if you wish for them to go on the class blog page. Thank you.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week the children both at home and in school have continued to work really hard and to make us so proud with their creativity and focus. We are so proud of all the super learning that is taking place at home and how children are really engaging with the videos, lessons and Purple Mash. Well done everyone. Keep up the good work children and thank you for everything that you have sent to us. Well done parents for all of your support and hard work too.
This week, we are delighted to present Ruby-Lilly, Evan and Owen with their certificates.
Ruby-Lilly receives a Lizzie Ladybird certificate for her continued effort to improve and get better in all of her lessons. Ruby-Lilly you are a pleasure to teach and you are always so enthusiastic too. Keep up the good work.
Evan and Owen, you both receive Co-operative Roger Robins/Creative Kiki Chameleon certificates. You have both continued to engage fully in the work and have had brilliant ideas about what you think might happen in the Iron Man story. You have completed some super work. Great punctuation too, well done!
Well done also to Leo who is the first to have reached 100% of his reading target this term. Well done Leo. That’s wonderful. Make sure that you put your bird up on the rainbow when we get back into class. Well done everyone. You have really tried to get on with your reading this week and to take quizzes. We have a few people now in the 60% zone and others in the 40% zone. Remember to take a quiz if you have not done this yet please.
Take a look below at the photos from this week. Sorry there aren’t as many as there should be - I have struggled to open the ones that we took in school as we are now working at home. Hopefully, I will be able to rectify this when I get back to school.
Another thing to celebrate
As a class we have achieved great things on IXL, please open the PDF below to see our certificate. Great work Year 3!
Things to Note:
Please make sure that your child has layers on at school during this cold weather. We need to have doors and windows open for ventilation, so the classroom is really cold at times. Thank you.
Don’t forget that if your child is learning at home, they can take reading quizzes from home again (Go to the orange “How to Help your Child” on the class page and scroll down to find the Accelerated Reader button—click on this, log on and take a quiz as you would in school).
Please check your emails about the Zoom meeting that we are organising for the children to get together as a whole class. It will be on Wednesday 26th January at 9:15am. (for about 20mins) You will need to read and agree to the Zoom meeting guidance which I have attached below. By accepting the invitation to join the meeting you are agreeing to accept the guidance. During the Zoom meeting we will be sharing things that the children are enjoying doing during Lockdown. (Maybe you could have a think about what you would like to say children.)
Again, we would like to say a huge “thank you” all for your support and co-operation this week. We really do appreciate all that you are doing to help the children with their learning at home and all of the emails and photos that you are sending to us, it really is important to us to try keep our class together even if it is virtually.
Please do continue to email us and keep in contact. We are here to help where we can and to keep the children learning.
Take care and stay safe

Year 4 blog Friday 22nd January. "You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I like you!
Well what a special book and a tremendous week! It has been so lovely to share our thoughts about this story and the characters over the last few weeks. We decided in class that the characters have certainly taught us a lot about life and about how to be a good friend to others. We think the other characters learned from Charlotte’s wonderful example of friendship and we learned from her too.
This week, the children have learned how to email each other through Purple Mash and, as I approve each message before it is sent, I have seen so many touching signs of deep friendship - not to mention lots of funny jokes! I know the children are missing each other so much and I am missing them too but we are finding so many new ways to communicate.
Each day, for everyone, so many obstacles are being overcome - many of them technical I know! Just think about how brilliant children will be at computing after this experience! I am blown away with children’s resilience and effort - it is so good to read their responses each day and see them grasping concepts and keeping up so well. I can see that we are making excellent progress with times tables and completing some tricky maths. The ‘tributes to Charlotte’ this week made me cry - as did the end of the book! The understanding children showed of the characters was really superb. Some great inference in history work too.
I hope you are enjoying your recorder lessons from Mrs Maddocks on Charanga. I know we are in class!
Well done Year 4 - we are all very proud of you!
Next week, we are going to launch a new novel which the children will love! Watch this space!
Let’s celebrate!
It was so difficult to single one person out as there is so many hard-working children at home - well done all of you!
This week, our home learner of the week, Amber receives a Sadie Spider Certificate - the determined learner. We are so impressed by your determination to succeed. All of the work you have handed in is thoughtful and considered. I can tell you are trying your very best and you listen to any feedback given. You are thriving during this lockdown – keep it up Amber
Our school learner of the week, Lena, receives a Tommy Turtle Certificate for being a brave learner. You are always being willing to have a go at anything. You give your absolute full self to all your work and you are an excellent learner. You listen to feedback and improve every time you learn. You are such a loving friend to others too. I am so proud of you and you should be very proud of yourself.
Reading Targets this half term
So far, these children have already met their reading target: James, Lena. Olivia, Isabella, Max, Esme and India! Excellent children!
Notices
Each Friday, we are hoping to have a live Year 4 zoom meeting at 11.35-11.55. There is a guidance document below that has been written in order to safeguard all of the children and staff involved in the meeting. Please can you read the document carefully and discuss it with your child. If you child is involved on Friday, I am assuming that you both agree to the document and the things that have been put in place. I will send you an email later on in the week to give you further details.
For school learners, don’t forget:
PE on Monday’s and Thursdays
Recorder on Thursday
Have a lovely, restful and peaceful weekend - thank you for the photos of your lovely children. We love to see their faces!
God bless and take care,
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Forster
This week....
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who have emailed me with kind words, understanding and concern for our nursery community. I am hopeful that if we have no other reported cases we will be safe to reopen on Tuesday. I would however like to reiterate that if anyone develops symptoms of Covid that they book a test straight away and inform me as soon as possible. A positive case could push back our opening.
In the meanwhile, I have lots of activities that you can be doing at home! We are continuing with our exploration of animals and have moved on to ‘wild animals’, although the children are reluctant to let go of our ice experiments. This week we had to make more ice globes and we even made snow. Check out the photos below!
To kick start our new learning we watched a video all about animal sounds. Click here to watch at home. The children were very good at recognising the sounds, but were caught out with a few!
Click here to play a Letters and Sounds animal noises game.
We then all chose our favourite animal for us to discuss. We found out if they were herbivores, carnivores or omnivores; we loved those words. We even remembered that dinosaurs could also be herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. That meant we had to make a dinosaur world as well as a safari/rainforest for the wild animals. We had lots to do!
Later in the day we all danced the Animal Bop! Have a go at home, it’s really good exercise!! Click here.
If you click on the button below you will find more information about physical movement whilst at home.
Still eager to find out more about animals we set up our Noah’s Ark and read the story. We put all the animals in pairs to enter the ark. Click here to listen to Noah’s story.
We noticed that some animals have different patterns on their fur and some animals had no fur at all; some had scales, feathers or hard, hard skin. We decided to paint animal patterns and to make animal pictures. by cutting out shapes using animal print tissue and googly eyes. They look fab! We are going to make a display of them all.
We also looked at the ‘big cats’ and their fur patterns. We used a programme on Purple Mash to create a picture. I have set it ‘to do’ at home, so you may be receiving notification (if I have done it correctly!)
It’s hard to believe what we have achieved in only four days. Why not test your child’s knowledge with the following quizzes.
Click here for the ‘guess the wild animal’ with David Attenborough and as we have been reading lots of books with animals in them why not complete this ‘animals in books quiz’; click here.
We are continuing with our exploration of number 4 (and1, 2 and 3), so click here for ‘make and play’ number blocks. It would be great of you could concentrate on the numbers 1-4.
A big thank you to everyone who has completed their home learning challenge that was sent home this week. The pictures and videos of you cutting and them playing your matching pairs game were fabulous. Remember to keep practicing your cutting skills and to watch our for next weeks challenge!
If you want to continue finding out about animals click here. There are facts to explore, games to play and even more quizzes to do. Who knows what we can learn about! Find out lots for next week!! You could send me me some pictures, I love to see you learning!
Finally, I would just like to say, keep safe and well. I know it’s hard not being able to go out, but hopefully it will only be a few days and now you have lots to do!! If you want to access learning from previous weeks you can do so by clicking on ‘in Nursery’ at the bottom of each blog. This will open all earlier postings.
Please can you keep an eye on your emails and text messages just in case I need to contact you. If you need to contact me my laptop is on!
I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

Can you keep on improving like Lizzie Ladybird today?
Good morning everyone, another Friday! You are doing so well with your learning children, you are making us and your parents very proud with your determination and resilience. This makes it so tricky to choose the certificates, who will it be?
Reading
Keep reading. You are doing a great job! Don’t forget to read for at least 30 minutes today and then take a quiz if you have finished your book. Remember you get the most points towards your target if you get 100% on your quizzes. Remember the link to Accelerated Reader quizzes is on the orange ‘How to help your child’ button, it will take you straight to the log in page that you see in school. How are you progressing up the rainbow? Don’t forget to let us know when you reach 100% of your target so that we can celebrate with everyone.
Maths fluency answers from yesterday
Here is a little video of me marking yesterday’s maths fluency, make sure you watch this before you attempt today’s, it should help you.
Maths
Fluency
Have a look on Purple Mash and complete the last of your fluency sheets for this week (named Maths fluency 22.1.2021). Apologies if those fluency boxes have been a bit pesky to write or type in the last couple of days. I have hopefully ironed out any niggles with them now. You are such Sadie Spiders!
Top tips
Don’t forget to set out any questions which need some working out in your maths book before you set the timer.
Copy answers from your maths book on to your Purple Mash 2do after the timer goes off.
This will then give you the whole 7 minutes to just calculate your answers.
IXL
Please complete strand I.10 on Year 3 IXL. It is some practice on those 3 digit plus 3 digit additions in the form of word problems.
English
Today we are going to read the next part of chapter 4 of the Iron Man. Make sure that you read the text carefully with me and then complete the different activities. Remember to make sure that you work neatly and carefully and you think about your spelling and punctuation too please.
Science
In science today we are going to be looking at the different food groups and how much we need of each of these to keep us fit and healthy. We need a balanced diet - a mixture of each of them and not too much of some of the groups. I have included a powerpoint and a pdf of the lesson on the buttons below. Choose which one you want to follow and then complete the 2Do which I have set on Purple Mash. (Don’t forget to save your work and hand it in.)
Year 3 Photos, photos, photos!
Computing - photography
Another fun lesson of using our cameras to produce some lovely photos, collages and edited work. Super children!
Year 6 Blog - 'Gratitude paints little smiley faces on everything that it touches.'
It is really hard to believe that we are at the end of week 3 this term. We always talk about how time flies in Year 6, but now more than ever it really seems to. This has been another successful week of learning in Year 6 and I am incredibly proud of the children both at home and in school. There are different pressures for all of the children and they are required to work in a different way. Both groups of children are asked to be more independent than they usually would, in the current circumstances.

Can you be curious like Clara Clownfish today?
Good morning everyone, how is your week going? Well we hope! We just wanted to say well done on the lovely learning comments on the blog on Purple Mash, it is lovely to see you encouraging and supporting each other.
If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.
Does anyone know which book character we borrowed this lovely quote from? We’ll give you a clue - He is yellow and doesn’t seem to like wearing trousers! Email us with your answers.
Reading
How are you getting on with your reading? Don’t forget to read for at least 30 minutes today and then take a quiz if you are ready to quiz. Try to get all of the questions in your quiz right, don’t forget to refer back to the book if you need to. The link to Accelerated Reader quizzes is on the orange ‘How to help your child’ button, it will take you straight to the login page that you see in school. How are you progressing up the rainbow? Don’t forget to let us know when you reach 100% of your target so that we can celebrate with everyone.
Maths
Children I am so impressed with your maths at the moment, you really are being resilient little Sadie Spiders and Curious Clara Clownfish spotting those patterns with your numbers. Well done! Question 3 the ‘Your turn’ slide is on Purple Mash again today, so please complete it on there.
English
Today we are going to learn about the suffix -ment. Watch the video below and learn how you can change words from a verb to a noun by adding -ment. I have set you some 2Dos (There are 3 altogether) to do once you have watched most of the video but you will need to go back to the video after doing your 2Dos so that you can do the dictations. Remember to think carefully about how you spell the root words please.
I have also added a button with new spelling words for you to learn. Please practise these throughout the week because next week I am going to set you a spelling quiz.
French
We are up and running with some French again, so watch Madame Jefferson and practise your colours.
