Our two new virtues for this half term are Loving and Compassionate, and this week has been all about Year 6 being loving and compassionate with the other children and staff around the school, giving their time and serving their school. This week was the first week of jobs and the teachers could not stop telling me how helpful, kind and enthusiastic all of their helpers were this week, so well done Year 6 on your first week working in classes.
This week Groups of children have been helping out in the afternoon for our younger years sport’s days, so far we have done Year 1/2 and nursery and recpetions- we can’t wait for our own sport’s afternoon next Wednesday. I have to say, we are quite disappointed we won’t have the year 6’s to help us out as the teachers in in the other classes have been singing their praises, saying they couldn’t have done it without them. What wonderful role models you are being Year 6, thank you- this is when we see this term of ‘service’ really come to life.
The suspense for some children waiting to go in the hall is unbearable, but their time will come- this is what it is all about … the fun of waiting for something amazing to all come together! We have comnpleted our first two scenes now and can’t wait to carry on next week! The children so far all know their lines and are delivering them with such confidence and expression- amazing job year 6! Please this weekend keep encouraging your child where possible to practice their lines and songs ready for next week. I know some of you have been asking about costumes …next week we will be putting a list together of the costumes we have already got in our drama cupboard, what we need to buy and if there is anything particular we need your child to have we will let you know by the end of next week.
What a lovely, varied week we have had in Year 6, and although the learning continues, we are putting all of our skills to good use in many different ways. This week we have studied the short story ‘The Giant’s Necklace’ by Michael Morpurgo, an emotional tale of a little girl who found herself in trouble when a freak strom hit the beach she was collecting shells on. The children have enjoyed writing their own Newspaper article to report this tragic incident!
Winmarleigh now seems a distant memory, yet the stories, tales and memories still live on. There have been many conversations centred around our holiday!
Bikeability is next Monday and the following Monday, so please remember to bring your bikes and helmets, unless you stated on the online form that you need to borrow and bike. Please come in at usual time and leave the bikes in the bike rack, with helmets attached. PE kits need to be worn this day, plenty of suncream, raincoat and bottles of water please. On the Monday children complete level 1, this assesses the child’s competence on a bike and whether they are safe enough toi progress to level 2 the following week, where it will be on the road around the school. The isntructors will not pass any child that they feel would be a danger to themselves or others, so as well as their bike skills they will also be monitoring the children’s listening skills. We will find out on Monday who has passed to move on to the next level the following week.
Delving deeper through talk …
How can we show love and compassion in our every day life?
Well done to Cora
Cora, what a ray of sunshine you are! You are working so hard and showing just how you have grown as a learner over the year. You are using all the skills you have learnt throughout the year and applying it to your work, showing just what an independent learner you have become! Your positive attitude and your enthusiasm is contagious, This radiates beyond the classroom.
Love and Compassionate Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do. Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Faye for always being compassionate and loving with others.
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:
Michael Faye Liam Cora
