What a jam-packed first week back it has been- we have certainly getting close to summer as the heat has cranked up this week! Sports days have started taking place, with Year 5 loving the music booming out just outside our classroom. Our sports day is just around the corner with the date and time of this down below in our notices. We have also began our preparations for the end of year play by hosting auditions for some small speaking roles amongst Year 6 and also practicing our songs in the hall with Mrs Harrison. We have also welcome our Year 6 helpers into our classroom on Mondays and Tuesdays with them being put to work straight away, whilst also being a kind and approaching supporters of our Year 5 children.
Learning has taken place straight away with us starting our final units in some of our subjects. Maths has been all things fractions as we have been recapping our knowledge of key words and linking this to our Year 5 curriculum. In English, we have dived into the world of poetry and have been reading the poem ‘The Highwayman’ which has huge links to our history topic of crime and punishment.
We have also been secretly making fathers day cards - so mothers, please keep these hidden until Sunday!
Let’s Celebrate
Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Seth for being an enthusiastic learner. You have really started our last half term with a spring in your step Seth. You have been engaging with lessons so profoundly and your hand has been shooting up ready to share your knowledge. Keep this up!
Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are love and compassion and our winner this week goes to Lilly. The Year 5 staff team have just loved how eloquent, gentle and loving you have been towards our younger children this week (especially with Hugo). You have given up your own break times to make sure our little friends are okay and have gone out of your way to help them.

Homework- Please check the homework blog to keep on track of your child’s SPAG, multiplication and division practice and also their reading.
Extra Curricular Activities- Please check the sports blog for new and existing sports clubs taking place this half term, including game and tournament dates.
Year 5 Sports Day- Will take place on Wednesday 18th June, starting at 1:30pm.
Gym Jam Jog- Will take place on Thursday 19th June. Bring your pajamas, running trainers and enthusiasm for an early 8am start!
Football Trials Tuesday 24th June- If you haven’t already and are interested in competing in the school football team, sign up via the sports page. There will be two trail dates to attend.
LSA Open Evening Thursday 26th June 4:40pm-7:00pm
Charity Football Match Friday 27th June- If you are interested in playing in a charity football match along with St Peter’s and St Bedes, please check the sports page for more information.
St Bedes Science and Technology Day Wednesday 2nd July- We will be having our annual taster day at St Bedes. School pick up times at Our Lady’s will be as normal. Children will need to be in their full school uniform (school jumper and not a PE hoody). You may bring a pack lunch with you or you can choose to have a school pack lunch.
