This week in our liturgies and daily prayer, we explored the Gospel from John 6:51–58, where Jesus reminds us that He is the “living bread” who feeds not our bodies, but our souls. We discussed how, just as we need food to grow strong, we also need Jesus to give us love, strength and courage in our hearts, especially as we approach the end of their time in primary school and prepare for new beginnings. We reflected on how Jesus nourishes us through His Word and through Holy Communion, we welcome Him into our lives in a very special way. The children have been thinking about how they can stay close to Jesus by praying, showing kindness and taking part in Mass, remembering that He is always with them, guiding and strengthening them for the journey ahead.
Our two new virtues for this half term are Curious and Active, and this week has been all about Year 6 have shown a lot of curiosty about what this final half term will bring at Our Lady’s and extremely active around the school…
The Jesuit virtues curious and active help us to grow and make a difference in the world. Being curious means asking questions, exploring new ideas and always wanting to learn more, whether in lessons or about the world around us. Being active means using our talents to help others, taking part, and making positive choices every day. In daily life, this might look like trying your best in class, helping a friend, joining in activities, or looking for ways to improve things. We strive to live out these virtues because they help us become thoughtful learners and caring members of our community, who use our gifts to make the world a better place.
What a lovely, varied week we have had in Year 6, and although the learning continues, we are putting all of our skills to good use in many different ways. We have already completed our first three scenes now and can’t wait to carry on next week! All we need now is for the children to know their lines and so that we can work on the delivery and expression- this weekend please keep encouraging your child where possible to practice their lines and songs ready for next week. I know some of you have been asking about costumes …over the next couple of weeks we will be putting a list together of the costumes we have already got in our drama cupboard, what we need to buy and if there is anything particular we need your child to have.
Jobs around the school are now in full flow. The staff have nothing but praise as to how helpful, kind and patient year 6 are with the younger pupils- they have really risen to their roles and responsibility!
Borwick Hall now seems a distant memory, yet the stories, tales and memories still live on. There have been many conversations centred around our holiday!
This week we had enrichment in school - Year 6’s final enrichment of the year - and it was sign language. Why not ask the children what they learnt?
Delving deeper through talk …
How can we be curious and active in our every day life?
Well done to …
Lorenzo - what a ray of sunshine you are! You are working so hard and showing just how you have grown as a learner over the year. You are using all the skills you have learnt throughout the year and applying it to your work, showing just what an independent learner you have become! Your positive attitude and your enthusiasm is contagious, This radiates beyond the classroom and onto the stage! What a Sheriff you are! Well done Lorenzo.
Curious and Active Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children who are active by taking part wholeheartedly, helping others, and using their talents to make a positive difference, just as Jesus showed love through his actions. We will also be looking for the children who are curious by asking questions, exploring new ideas, and seeking to understand the world around them, following Jesus who taught through wonder, stories, and discovery. These children live out these virtues with Jesus at the centre, letting his example inspire both their curiosity and their actions each day. This week we thank Daisy for always being active and curious.
